The popular romantic comedy anime Rent-a-Girlfriend will receive a third season.The official Twitter account for the Rent-a-Girlfriend anime shared a Crunchyroll article revealing that the anime's third season received the green light for production. An announcement with more information regarding Season 3 will happen at a special event in March 2023.
Rent-a-Girlfriend (Kanojo, Okarishimasu) started as a manga written and illustrated by Reiji Miyajima. Serialized in Kodansha's Weekly ShÅnen Magazine, the series later received a tankÅbon compilation totaling 28 volumes as of Sept. 2022. Kodansha USA released the first volume of the English localized edition in June 2020. Developed into a TV anime in 2020 by TMS Entertainment, it aired from July through Sept. 2020 on MBS's Super Animeism block. Its second season aired in 2022. The official Rent-a-Girlfriend Twitter account announced its renewal for a third season earlier today. Seasons 1 and 2 of the anime both ran for 12 episodes.
Rent-a-Girlfriend Has an Anime, Manga, Live-action and Game
Aside from its manga and anime iterations, Rent-a-Girlfriend also received a live-action television drama adaptation that premiered on TV Asahi on July 3, 2022. Ryūsei Ōnishi (a member of Naniwa Danshi, a Kansai Johnny's Jr. unit) starred as Kazuya, while Hiyori Sakurada (Hinami Fueguchi in Tokyo Ghoul S) played the role of Chizuru. Additionally, a 2021 crossover smartphone game titled Kanojo, Okarishimasu Heroine All-Stars featured characters from the series, including Chizuru, Mami, Ruka and Sumi.
Rent-a-Girlfriend follows the story of Kazuya Kinoshita, a 20-year-old college student from Tokyo. Dumped by his girlfriend, Mami Nanami, after dating for only a month, he uses an online dating app that allows users to rent whatever they need, including parents, children and even a girlfriend. After renting a girlfriend named Chizuru from the Diamond Company, Kazuya gives her a low rating despite her beauty because he feels she's inauthentic. At their next meeting, Chizuru scolds him, which causes Kazuya to see her in a new light. At that moment, Kazuya finds out that his grandmother has collapsed and is in the hospital, leading to Chizuru tagging along with him for a visit. Kazuya's grandmother adores Chizuru, which leads to Kazuya continuing to rent her so that he can keep up the ruse in front of his family and friends. Unfortunately, it gets complicated when Kazuya finds out that Chizuru is his next-door apartment neighbor and schoolmate at his college.
