The year-old rumor that Jeremy Renner will appear as Hawkeye in the Kenneth Branagh-directed Thor is true, apparently.
According to The Wrap, a person who has seen an early cut of Thor confirms that Renner's archer is in the film while Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury is not. The individual wouldn't elaborate on the nature or extent of Renner's cameo.
Talk of Renner's involvement in Thor, and The Avengers, began circulating as far back as November 2009, when Empire magazine quoted the actor as saying he was in discussions with Marvel to portray Hawkeye in both films. However, a month later, Renner played down the report, saying it was “blown way out of proportion,” and that the role was simply “an idea.”
Nearly six months later he was confirmed for the Joss Whedon-directed Avengers, with whispers of the Thor cameo seemingly forgotten. Until now, in any case.
Thor, which opens on May 6, a year ahead of The Avengers, also features a connecting element in the form of Clark Gregg, whose SHIELD Agent Phil Coulson appeared in Iron Man and Iron Man 2.
Thor stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Jamie Alexander and Anthony Hopkins.
