Brushing off poor reviews and a complete lack of Harry Hamlin, the remake of Clash Of The Titans broke box office records this weekend, taking in more than $20 million more than Scary Movie 4 to become the most successful Easter Weekend movie opening ever.

Box Office Mojo puts Titans', um, titanic (Sorry) US Box Office haul at $61.4 million for its first three days of release, which also made it the second most successful April opening of all time, behind last year's Fast and Furious. How much of this comes from audiences fired up by the proposition of watching Avatar's Sam Worthington slay mythical beasts, and how much comes from higher prices for 3D tickets - Titans was rush-reworked into 3D format when Warners saw how popular the format was becoming - remains to be seen, however. But considering the huge success of previous 3D movies Alice in Wonderland and Avatar this year alone, it's worth wondering whether the audience would have an appetite for 3D no matter what the subject matter was. Quick! Someone re-release Julie and Julia in 3D!
