Released in 2006, the Wii became an instant hit, selling out in markets across the globe. It's main selling point was its motion controls, allowing it to play classics like Wii Sports and forcing Microsoft and Sony to respond with their own motion controllers. It was the first Nintendo console to connect to the Internet and support digital distribution of games. As of 2020, it has sold 101 million units, making it Nintendo's best-selling console and the fourth best-selling console of all time.

Aside from Wii Sports, some of the Wii's other best-selling games include Mario Kart Wii, Wii Sports Resort, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Will Play, Wii Fit, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Mario Galaxy, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
