The upcoming Reign of the Supermen animated movie is embracing the '90s DC storyline, but apparently not when it comes to Superman's mullet.

During the Reign of the Supermen panel at New York Comic Con, executive producer James Tucker made the audience boo with a single remark: "No mullets will be seen in this movie." Because of the surprisingly negative reaction from fans, Tucker later clarified his earlier statement, saying, "Just because there isn't a mullet in the film doesn't mean there isn't long hair."

Despite the negative reaction to Superman's dated hairdo's seeming exclusion from the upcoming movie, several clips were shown that received loud cheers from the audience. One clip showed the film's intro, which takes place several months after The Death of Superman. That footage featured Superboy using his super speed to save two people from muggers in an alleyway. After that, Steel saved Jimmy Olsen from a bus. Also shown was an emotional encounter between Cyborg Superman and Lois Lane, and a more comedic scene showing the Justice League being forced to work together with the arrogant Superboy. Another clip revealed Eradicator attempting to kill Lex Luthor.

Directed by Sam Liu, Reign on the Supermen stars Cameron Monaghan, Jerry O’Connell, Cress Williams, Patrick Fabian, Rebecca Romijn, Nathan Fillion, Rainn Wilson, Toks Olagundoye and Nyambi Nyambi. It is set to be released in 2019.
