Social media has rallied behind a terminally ill Marvel fan who's last wish is to see the upcoming film Avengers: Endgame ahead of its scheduled April 26 release date.

The fan, who goes by the Reddit username alexander_q, posted their story to the Marvel Studios subreddit on Jan. 5, explaining that they likely will not make it to be able to see Avengers: Endgame when it is officially released.

"Liver cancer, mouth cancer, bone marrow failure," Alexander said, explaining his condition. "Will probably be dead before April, I've heard of people getting early screenings before. How do I get in on this action?"

"I'm not a child or anyone with a particularly tragic story," he continued. "Just a normal guy. I'm 33, lost my sister three years ago to the same rare genetic disease it turns out I have to. I'll leave behind a devoted girlfriend and an adopted greyhound. I thought I'd make it to April at least but my bone marrow is toast."

Following Alexander's initial post, there was an outpouring of support on social media, with scores of people using the Twitter hashtag #Avengers4Alexander to reach out to Marvel officials like Kevin Feige and the Russo brothers.

After his post blew up, Alexander offered a follow-up message, which reads, "Wow. Girlfriend brought me coffee in bed and I just read this entire thread. People offered me their organs. There's a hashtag on Twitter. This is crazy... Thank you all."

Shortly thereafter, another update was posted.

"It's been a surreal day for me," said Alexander. "There are articles on blogs and I heard someone talking about me in a YouTube video. I've had thousands of messages and comments of support and I'm very grateful. I've had lots of questions too and I've done my best to answer all of them. If I missed yours it's not personal, it's just that my inbox is out of control."

"I've had messages from people hinting that Marvel higher ups are aware of me and are preparing something, he continued. "Also, because Australia is a small place, turns out I know a guy who knows a guy who is chums with Chris Hemsworth. I think they called him tonight on my behalf."

Alexander also explained that he had provided proof of his condition to a moderator on the Marvel-themed subreddit r/ThanosDidNothingWrong.

"I don't know what the outcome will be but this has been amazing. If it doesn't pan out don't sweat it - I'll carry your kind words with me and that's worth far more."

CBR has reached out to Alexander for additional comment, but he had not responded as of this writing.
