'RED' Writers Take the Wheel of Sony's 'Gran Turismo'

Sony Pictures has hired brothers Jon and Erich Hoeber, the writing team behind "RED" and "RED 2," to tackle the adaptation of the "Gran Turismo" video game franchise. Joseph Kosinski ("Oblivion," "Tron: Legacy") is attached to direct.

"Watchmen" writer Alex Tse was tapped in 2013 to write the screenplay, but The Hollywood Reporter doesn't indicate whether the Hoebers will be working from his draft or starting fresh.

Developed by Polyphony Digital, "Gran Turismo" is a wildly popular racing series that utilizes licensed reproductions of real-world cars. THR suggests the film won't merely use the title as a springboard for a "Fast and the Furious"-style story, but rather may "play with the conceit of a gamer-turned-racer."

In addition to the two "RED" films, the Hoeber brothers also wrote "Battleship" and "Whiteout."
