Infinity War's Red Skull Actor Won't Say Whether He's in Avengers 4

Given the secrecy surrounding the release of Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War, almost every single fan was shocked to see the return of the Red Skull in this summer's highly-anticipated ensemble film. After being last seen in Captain America: The First Avenger -- where the Red Skull had mysteriously vanished through a cosmic portal opened by the Tesseract -- the Red Skull's whereabouts were finally revealed to be on the planet Vormir, where he worked as the guardian of the Soul Stone.

However, after the Mad Titan Thanos secured the Soul Stone, the Red Skull's status once again became in doubt. The directors of the film, brothers Joe and Anthony Russo, both rather curiously confirmed that the Captain America villain was now free from his role as stonekeeper, and that he could once again embark on a quest to possess one of the Infinity Stone. Naturally, this led many fans to theorize about the Skull's possible return in next year's Avengers 4.

But the actor behind the character, The Walking Dead's Ross Marquand (who took over the role from The First Avenger's Hugo Weaving) will not be the one to confirm or deny whether he is actually in the upcoming Avengers film.

"I don't know," Marquand said when pressed about his possible return in Avengers 4 on last night's episode of Talking Dead. "I can't answer that question. I really don't know."

Of course, the fact that the actor doesn't want to give an answer might be telling, in and of itself. Marquand had a small role to play in Infinity War, and yet here he is once again fielding questions about the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This, combined with the Russo brothers teasing that the Red Skull might already have plans of his own now that he is free from Vormir makes us wonder if Captain America will be reunited with is old foe.

With rumors of Avengers 4 serving as the final vehicle for Chris Evans' Steve Rogers, it would sure make for a nice closing of the loop.
