In the wake of the success of the recent Red Dwarf movie-length special The Promised Land, show co-creator and writer Doug Naylor revealed that he would love to help bring more Red Dwarf to the screen.

Naylor, along with producer Richard Naylor, recently discussed ideas for potential follow-ups to The Promised Land and did not rule out another Red Dwarf feature-length special. "I love the format of the film-length [episode] and would love to do more," Doug stated.

"There are a million ideas, but it's hard to focus on something," Richard Naylor told the Two Geeks, Two Beers podcast. One thing is certain, though; there are no plans to give Red Dwarf a finale. Doug Naylor explained, "We've always said that we don't want to do the 'final show' – where Lister's back on Fuchal, he's got his white horses and somehow he's got Kochanski and they ride off into the distance and everyone goes 'What a lame s--t show that was' – it would be just horrific."

So far, the Red Dwarf series has seen eleven full series, a mini-series titled Back to Earth and The Promised Land. "I think if you were gonna end it… there'd possibly be a chance in a novel or something," Richard remarked. "[Doug has] got some things that he's told me that I genuinely think would be great endings, but those big moments, sometimes when you try and do them on a sitcom budget, even if it's a healthy budget, it just doesn't quite have the impact." Finally, Doug added, "Also I don't want it to end... Going 'That's the end'… I think that would be horrible. I'm tearing up just thinking about it!"

The Promised Land aired on Dave, a channel owned by broadcaster UKTV. It is available to watch on UKTV Play and the DVD is now available for pre-order.
