Fishing, a new mechanic introduced in Red Dead Redemption 2, allows the player can catch and hunt fish for quests, sport or money. Cooking and eating fish also restores health, stamina or Dead Eye cores. It's also just a fun way to waste a few hours in one of the most gorgeous games to release in the past decade.

In total, there are 15 types of fish, with each having its own Legendary version. Fish differ in weight and size when caught and most are specific to one region. Talking to Jeremy Gill will activate the Legendary Fish Quest and by using specific lures while following the map, Arthur can travel the country to find the biggest and best catches.

After completing ''A Fisher of Men,'' the player will see a Stranger location marker in The Heartlands, close to Flatneck Station. Here they will find Jeremy Gill, a self-proclaimed legendary fisherman. He asks Arthur if he would like a photograph or autograph before showing off the inside of his cabin, where he makes a living by selling stuffed fish. This starts the ''A Fisher of Fish'' quest.

He then proceeds to give Arthur the map of all the Legendary Fish sites. Stating he will pay a handsome price in exchange, he asks Arthur to collect 13 fish for him. After completing the first part of the mission, the player can later return to Jeremy to help him hunt a giant catfish in Río Bravo.

How to Catch a Legendary Fish

The primary tool for fishing is the fishing rod, which is unlocked as the player progresses through the story, specifically when fishing with Jack Marston in ''A Fisher of Men.'' However, it can be unlocked earlier by knocking it out of the hands of a fishing NPC, although the Legendary Fish quest doesn't start until after ''A Fisher of Men'' is complete.

To catch Legendary Fish, the player will need specific Lures based on the area the fish is located, such as in a river or swamp. It is recommended to visit the Bait & Tackle Shop in Lagras as it sells all the types of bait and lures available, including ones for non-legendary fish. Catching a Legendary Fish is the same as catching a normal fish. When using a Lure, the player needs to slowly reel the lure in to make it look alive to fish, then wait until the fish bites before hooking it in.
