Steamboat Springs, CO, just gained a pretty great claim to fame. On Saturday, February 8, the town launched the world's largest aerial firework, a fact made official by the Guinness Book of World Records.

The explosive weighed in at 2797 pounds and was 57.75" in diameter. The first video, posted to YouTube, offers two different views of the firework, one from a GoPro camera mounted directly beneath the firework and another from a vantage point further away. The second part of the video gives a much better sense of the scale of the explosion, while the first part is simply awe-inspiring.

A second video, from a further vantage point, gives an even better sense of scale when the whole town becomes visible after the explosion:

For a moment above Steamboat Springs, it's as if another sun has appeared in the sky. The sense of scale given in the second video makes the GoPro video that much more awe-inspiring, and the delay between explosion and sound gives an excellent idea of just how far away from the videographer the firework, and explosion, actually were.
