Another of comic’s lost holy grails was recovered last month when “2000 AD” publisher Rebellion announced a one-time-only print run of 1000 hardcover editions of Grant Morrison and Steve Yeowell’s long out-of-print “Zenith.” Pre-orders for the limited £100 “Zenith” hardcover began on July 1 and Rebellion has exclusively informed CBR News that by the morning of July 4, it was completely sold out. “Zenith” is scheduled to ship in December.
Rebellion and “2000 AD” PR Coordinator Michael Molcher shared the follow statement with CBR News:
“The response to the first reprint of the complete Zenith has been phenomenal — it’s the fastest selling title we’ve ever had and sold out in just 48 hours. There’s been huge demand for such an important moment in comics history and, as co-creator Steve Yeowell has said, it’s really exciting to see it collected together for the first time.”
“Zenith” originally ran in “2000 AD” over the course of several years, consisting of four “phases” beginning in 1987’s “2000 AD” prog 535. A struggle for the rights to “Zenith” between “2000 AD” and Morrison prevented any new editions from being reprinted for years. A small run of collected editions released near the series’ original publication routinely sell for upwards of hundreds of dollars apiece on eBay.
Rebellion says it will never reprint the hardcover edition of “Zenith” and has not announced plans to publish the book in any other format, either.
Morrison has yet to make a public statement on the collection.
