In 2011, singer Rebecca Black stepped onto the YouTube music scene with her song, "Friday." Black, who was thirteen at the time, was met with seethingly cruel criticism of her music video. Now, ten years later, Black makes a comeback in two music videos: Dorian Electra's Joker-themed music video and an electric remix of her very own "Friday."

When "Friday" first released on YouTube on February 11, 2011, it was immediately met with the harshest of criticisms. Critics and viewers maligned "Friday," calling it the "worst song ever," and Black was the subject of negative media and bullying. Not surprisingly, this caused the young singer to suffer significant mental health issues, and Black stepped away from the spotlight for quite some time. In 2016, Black released "The Great Divide," a song about the baggage she carried from the public's vitriol of her thirteen-year-old self. During this time, she also spoke out about the negative effects the online criticism had on her.

Black's appearance in the "Edgelord" music video, as well as a "Friday" remix, has gained her notoriety once again. "Edgelord" by hyper-pop artist Dorian Electra is heavily Joker-themed, with Electra starring as the Joker and Black as Harley Quinn.

The video seems to be mixing elements of the old Batman cartoons with a Birds of Prey vibe. Electra sports long, straggly green hair, dark-ringed eyes, dark red lipstick and a long, purple coat, clearly resembling the Batman villain. Their maniacal autotuned laughter can be heard in between verses, and "Edgelord" even features a few iconic Joker lines, such as "we live in a society," and "why so serious?"

Black's Harley Quinn appears in a short, blue haircut, a red, spiked choker and a long, leather, black coat. Oozing confidence, she steps out from a black car onto a red carpet, smiling for the cameras. Cut to the next scene, and Black and Electra are in a small, empty room together. Black's Harley now has cobalt-blue hair tied up in two long ponytails and wears a crop top and mini-skirt. She's carrying a red bat, using it to smash glass with Electra's Joker. The "Edgelord" music video is a fun pop tribute to the Joker and Harley Quinn. Equally fun is Black's remix of her original "Friday," which also features Dorian Electra.

Big Freedia and 3OH!3 join the "Friday" remix cast alongside Black and Electra. Interestingly, the music video has similarities to "Edgelord," seemingly Gotham-themed in its own right. Once again, Black sports a spiked choker, leather clothing and long blue hair. Electra appears to be portraying the Batman Who Laughs, and the nighttime city skyline that serves as the backdrop for the video resembles a dark Gotham city.

It's daytime as the video comes to a close. As Black sings the last few verses, she flies in her white car above the clouds as citizens look up in a "It's a bird! It's a plane! It's Superman!" moment. Folks from all over the world are in awe of the singer. The scene is a symbolic way of Black telling the world she's above their criticism and has taken back the power that the media tried to take from her years ago.

Black's "Friday" remix was released on February 10, 2021, exactly ten years after her original. Though she endured a lot during the years that followed, she's come full circle today. In these new music videos, she embodies all the confidence, edginess and boldness that Harley Quinn does.
