Dio Brando is the villain in two parts, while Funny Valentine is the major antagonist in part 7. Both of them are brilliant characters whose qualities appeal to different kinds of people. In certain aspects, DIO is the better character and in the others, it is Funny Valentine. In this post, we will go through five reasons why Dio Brando is better than Funny Valentine and vice versa.

10 DIO: RESPECT FOR ENEMIES

Dio Brando is known to be a very malevolent character that is certainly a just claim. However, there is one rare instance where even the evil Dio Brando felt respect for his enemy. This was when he fought against Jonathan Joestar.

Both of them were raised as brothers. Originally Dio considered Jonathan a mere nuisance, but slowly he grew to admire his indefatigableness. When Jonathan managed to beat Dio, the latter decided that he would take Jonathan's body out of respect.

9 VALENTINE: BETTER BACKSTORY

Almost every successful hero has a brilliant yet cliche backstory. The same is true for villains. A good villain isn't good purely on the basis of his powers. In this case, both Dio and Valentine have good backstories.

But, Valentine's backstory is frankly more moving. His father was brutally tortured, but he made sure that he left his son a momento.

8 DIO: PURE EVIL

Dio is the definition of pure evil. Throughout his life, Dio only harmed people. In part 1, he simply ate humans for the sake of increasing his own powers. He tried to kill his adoptive father, George Joestar, who was always kind to him. In part 3, Dio sent hordes of minions to defeat the Joestar group.

However, his most heinous act was turning a mother into a vampire, who then ate her baby. Dio Brando is without a doubt the most malevolent character in the series.

7 VALENTINE: NOBLE GOAL

It is often said that an ambitious villain makes for a more interesting character. While, this may be true in most circumstances, but it doesn't make a character unique.

Most villains are after world domination except Funny Valentine. His goal was to gain all the parts of the Saint's corpse for the betterment of the United States. The story of his father and his own experiences made him believe that all of his actions were completely justified.

6 DIO: RIVALRY WITH JOESTARS

No character in anime history has managed to torture several generations of a family with the sole exception of Dio Brando. He was a constant thorn in the side of the Joestar family.

He was responsible for the death of Jonathan Joestar. Dio also managed to kill Joseph Joestar, who was only brought back to life all thanks to Jotaro's newfound ability to restart the heart of a person. His influence spanned over several parts, but more on that later.

5 VALENTINE: STAND

Arguably, Funny Valentine has a more powerful stand than Dio. His stand is called Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap or D4C. It allows him to travel through several dimensions. All he needs to do is to get between two things. Also, Valentine can replace his injured self with his healthier otherworldly versions.

Dio's stand is The World and it surpasses D4C in speed and power. In addition to this, it can also stop time. It is very difficult choosing between the two, but if Valentine managed to grab ahold of Dio from another dimension then Dio would be in trouble. If the two Dios come too close then both of them would merge with each other, thus effectively killing each other.

4 DIO: ICONIC

There is no real competition when it comes to the question: "who is more iconic?" The answer is pretty simple- Dio Brando. From his most iconic line "Kono Dio Da," to his famous battle cry "WRYYYYY," everything about Dio has been immortalized.

Even Dio's stand, The World is very popular. Funny Valentine cannot challenge Dio when it comes to popularity.

3 VALENTINE: MANAGED TO BEAT THE HERO

Dio wanted to exterminate every Joestar so that there would be no one left to question his authority. He also proclaimed that he would have eventually been able to stop time infinitely. Fortunately, Jotaro smashed Dio's head. Funny Valentine was a bit more successful while dealing with Johnny Joestar.

Johnny managed to injure him, however, Valentine managed to stall Johnny and got himself a companion, who turned out to be Diego Brando from another dimension. Valentine died but Diego managed to carry out the task. It was only due to Lucy's efforts that Johnny survived.

2 DIO: LONGER IMPACT

The charismatic vampire played a pivotal role in the series even after his death. Giorno Giovanna is one of his sons. He also proved to be the inspiration for Pucci, who killed Jolyne and Jotaro among several others.

Dio's other sons were minor antagonists in Stone Ocean. Dio is somehow linked to almost every part whether directly or indirectly.

1 VALENTINE: CUNNING

This is another close contest. Both Dio and Valentine are clever. They have proven their ingenuity time and time again. However, Funny Valentine just edges it. He was the real mastermind behind the Steel Ball Run race. He also managed to stall Johnny until he found Diego from another dimension.

He would've had the last laugh because Johnny was severely injured by Diego, but Lucy had other plans. She saved Johnny and got rid of Diego Brando.
