The Ginyu Force is a group of the most iconic villains in the Dragon Ball series. This group of henchmen is actually one of the coolest groups of planet conquerors there are in the history of anime and this cool factor comes from a myriad of different reasons that may not be too apparent to anyone that simply watched or read Dragon Ball.
For those interested in why these big nerds are so darn cool, this list will be going over a few of the biggest reasons behind it. For those that are dead set on hating on the Ginyu Force, move on this list isn't for you.
10 THEY'VE CONQUERED WHOLE PLANETS
The Ginyu Force may just be made of five members but despite that, this small group of super-powerful fighters has managed to conquer whole planets alone. In fact, the main job that they're paid to do by Lord Frieza himself is this conquering of entire planets, and sometimes if they're lucky Frieza actually lets them keep said planet.
This is honestly a big deal in the Dragon Ball where many planets may not be home to the strongest fighters but many of the planets are packed with people at least in control of some powerful weaponry. The Ginyu Force overcame these roadblocks multiple times.
9 THEY WERE SECOND ONLY TO FRIEZA
During a time where Frieza was seen as the strongest in the galaxy and maybe even the universe, the Ginyu Force was second only to him. This means that this special group of elite warriors was amongst the strongest and most feared beings in the galaxy which is reflected by Vegeta's fear after hearing that they're on the way to Planet Namek.
If you're being compared to the power level of Frieza then that would make anyone during the earlier acts of Dragon Ball tremble in fear. It's just crazy that these pose-obsessed nerds were able to do it.
8 THEY'RE A LOVE LETTER TO SUPER SENTAI
The Ginyu Force's poses aren't just for funny spectacle but they are a giant love letter to the Super Sentai series. Super Sentai is basically Japan's Power Rangers. Power Rangers is actually just Super Sentai but edited with American recordings to make it into a show better suited for Western audiences.
The Ginyu Force parodies these heroes with their exaggerated attitudes and their special fighting poses. Much like these color-coded superhero teams, the Ginyu Force does these poses amazingly and has it add to their charm.
7 THEY DON'T WORK FOR FRIEZA
Despite constantly taking orders from him the Ginyu Force doesn't actually work for Frieza. They are a team of mercenaries that just work for the highest bidder. They just so happen to have made such a name for themselves that the likes of Lord Frieza has placed them in his favor and constantly decides to drop some zenni in their direction in return for them taking over a planet of two for him.
The best part of this relationship is the fact that Frieza has the Ginyu Force on speed dial as seen when he was annoyed with his own force while looking for Vegeta and the Dragon Balls and immediately calls them up.
6 THEY'RE SO POWERFUL THAT FRIEZA PUTS UP WITH THEM
While Frieza is favorable to the Ginyu Force it can be noted that the powerful space tyrant doesn't quite like them. He definitely doesn't hate him and he, of course, likes their power levels because they make things much easier for him. However, the Ginyu Force is really just a group of strong nerds and that leads to Frieza getting more annoyed and embarrassed for anything.
Any other fighters that did things like this would be killed on the spot but Frieza simply puts up with them. This is a testament to how useful and how powerful the Ginyu Force is early on in the series.
5 THEY'VE BEEN AROUND LONGER THAN FRIEZA
The Ginyu Force hasn't simply worked as Lord Frieza's right-hand men and in fact, has been around much longer than he has. They made a name for themselves before Frieza even got his first planet and worked with his father King Cold as well. They may have been around even before he showed up as well.
This is seen when the Ginyu Force is there for Frieza's appearance as a child on Planet Vegeta posing for his ceremony. It is also straight up said that they've worked with the likes of King Cold.
4 GINYU'S FUSION WITH GOHAN
One of the best things that the extended Dragon Ball universe gives us is Captain Ginyu's fusion with Gohan in the Dragon Ball videogame, Dragon Ball: Fusions. These two nerds fuse into the alien superhero Ginyuman. This fusion isn't just a fusion between Ginyu and Gohan but more specifically a fusion between Ginyu and the Great Saiyaman himself.
The design of this fusion is actually one of the best things ever and really makes us wish that this fusion would somehow show up in the actual anime or manga of the Dragon Ball series.
3 THEY'RE SOME OF THE MOST MEMORABLE VILLAINS
In the pantheon of Dragon Ball villains, the Ginyu Force really stands out. They are some of the goofiest characters around and just so happen to be some of the most powerful nerds in the universe. They're so memorable in fact that they are referenced and Ginyu is brought back to appear in the new Dragon Ball Super series.
It would be great if the entire force could come back to work for Frieza again somehow.
2 THEIR BACKSTORIES ARE GREAT
The backstories for the Ginyu Force are some stories of Dragon Ball that not many are aware of due to the fact that they simply show up in an old magazine featuring them but that doesn't make them any less great.
Recoome was a dancer leading him to be the pose creator of the group, Burter constantly ran chores which increased his speed, Jeice played baseball which gave him his great ki ability, Guldo was a crummy kid that used his time control to his advantage, and Ginyu has been changing bodies to preferred ones all his life. He's changed so much that no one knows what his original form looks like.
1 THEY ARE SAID TO HAVE HELPED INSPIRE GREAT SAIYAMAN
Many fans are under the headcanon that the Ginyu Force is where Gohan got the idea to become the superhero Great Saiyaman. It's one of the fancanons that's actually become very popular amongst the Dragon Ball fandom.
This is one of the things that should definitely become canon. It'd be hilarious to see Gohan gush about how cool he thought their poses were.
