Amusement parks have been around since the 1800s and are a popular destination for individuals and families looking for a fantastical, fun-filled experience to temporarily escape everyday life. Many amusement parks build themed attractions based on popular media in an effort to enhance their guest's experience.

While movies produced by Hollywood are what many western audiences automatically think of when discussing attractions inspired by pop culture, that doesn't remain the case for all countries. Japan's pop culture tends to largely center around manga and anime. There are several amusement park attractions dedicated to both that can be found in Japan and would pique the interest of any anime fan.

10 Small Lane of GeGeGe No Kitaro Is A Creepy Attractiongegege-no-kitaro-header

Based on the manga series GeGeGe No Kitaro, Small Lane of GeGeGe No Kitaro is an attraction found at Fuji-Q Highland Amusement park. The attraction itself has two different points. The first is a 3D sound attraction where guests enter a darkened room with an eerie atmosphere. A Nezumi Otoko begins to speak — sometimes as friend and sometimes as foe — and guests then start hearing the yokai speaking from all different directions.

The second enjoyment point is the Yokai stand. The Yokai stand has around two hundred different types of Kitaro goods available for purchase as well as a photo spot where guests can take pictures with the characters from GeGeGe No Kitaro.

9 Crayon Shin-Chan Adventure Park Has Different Points Of Enjoyment

Crayon Shin-Chan Adventure Park is an attraction inspired by the Crayon Shin-Chan anime that's located in an interactive theme park called Nijigen No Mori on Awaji Island in Japan. This adventure park has several fun activities for guests to enjoy.

There is a huge obstacle course with three different skill levels to choose from and includes a mystery solving game. There's also a reverse bungee jumping attraction called "Super Whites Charge" as well as an AR scavenger hunt type activity where guests scan a QR code on the fifty-four Crayon Shin-Chan character statues located throughout the park. Collecting all the QR codes can win a prize at the shop.

8 Night Walk Hinotori Is A Mystical Walk-Through Attraction

Night Walk Hinotori is another interactive attraction located inside Nijigen no Mori on Awaji Island that's based on the manga Hinotori. Only available at night, this attraction is a 1.2-kilometer-long combination of fantastical shows, puzzles, and treasure hunts intended to take the guests through the story of Hinotori.

Special effects are used to create a mystical, mythical, and slightly creepy atmosphere designed to give the guests the illusion of being in an otherworldly enchanted forest. Guests must answer riddles and complete puzzles to continue moving through the attraction.

7 Naruto & Boruto Shinobi-Zato Puts Guests Through Ninja School

Naruto and Boruto Shinobi-Zato is another interactive attraction located in Nijigen no Mori on Awaji Island. With the purchase of tickets, guests are given two scrolls. The Scroll of Heaven takes guests through the ninja school training course. A large Hokage rock acts as an entrance for a three-story maze with two separate courses.

The Scroll of Earth is all about solving puzzles, where guests are challenged to restore seven seals. Three other interesting points of this attraction are the free AR experience that allows guests to take photos that make it look as though they really are using ninjutsu, the Ichiraku Ramen shop, and a gift shop with unique Naruto-themed items.

6 Godzilla Interception Operation Literally Takes Guests Through Godzilla

Also located inside Nijigen no Mori, Godzilla Interception is an interactive attraction with four progressive components. The first part is a short film exclusive to Nijigen no Mori that tells guests how Godzilla came to be on Awaji Island.

The second component features a 120-meter statue of Godzilla that has ziplines with the option to go through Godzilla's mouth to view the inside or to go past Godzilla and view him from the outside. After finishing the ziplines, guests are able to enter a video game-type booth where they attempt to shoot hostile Godzilla cells. The fourth component is the first and only permanent Godzilla museum.

5 Attack On Titan The Attraction Lets Guests Take on Titans

Joypolis is an indoor amusement park created by Sega that also happens to be the home of Attack On Titan The Attraction. This role-playing, walk-through, interactive attraction uses a combination of visual, audio, and other special effects to make guests feel as though they are fully immersed in this fantastical world.

Guests play the role of Volunteers taking the enrollment exam at the Trost District Training Corps enrollment center when many Titans breach the wall. While evacuating the enrollment center, Titans appear and guests are forced to make choices.

4 Ace Attorney Role Play Attraction Puts Guests In The Courtroom

Ace Attorney is another role-playing attraction located inside Joypolis that's based on popular games and anime of the same name. The story scene made up of three chapters and takes place in Joypolis. As a result, this attraction is only available at Joypolis.

In rooms designed to look like an evidence room and a courtroom, guests will investigate and attempt to reveal the truth. During the guests' participation, Phoenix Wright, other familiar characters, and some characters that are unique to only this attraction will make appearances and assist guests on their quest to solve the mystery.

3 Guests Get Rescued By Mari On Evangelion X Fuji Airways 4D Ride

Evangelion X Fuji Airways 4D ride is found at Fuji-Q Highland an amusement park located in Fujiyoshida, Japan near the base of Mount Fuji. Using role play to enhance guests' experience, guests are tourists boarding a Big Crane N223 owned and operated by a fictional tourism company owned by NERV.

Guests go through a suspended fantasy ride that uses CG and other special effects to allow guests to feel as though they are truly taking flight. The flight is interrupted by an Angel attack and rescued by their guide and pilot Mari Makinami Illustrious. This attraction combines real world sights such as Lake Kawaguchi, several heritage locations, and even a sky view of Mount Fuji, with the world of Neon Genesis Evangelion.

2 Detective Conan: The World Lets Guests Interact With Characters

Universal Studios Japan is hosting its fifth year of Detective Conan World, which features several popular attractions based on the Detective Conan anime. An escape room where guests and several Detective Conan characters work to solve a case is one of these popular attractions.

Another point of the attraction is Detective Conan X Hollywood Dream - The Ride, which is a combination of a coaster and several effects that make guests feel as though they are sitting in the car with Furuya during a high speed pursuit. Last but not least is the Detective Conan Mystery Challenge, which is a live entertainment rally where guests join Conan and utilize clues to solve a mysterious note.

1 Naruto X Boruto Fuji Hidden Leaf Village Lets Guests Enjoy Naruto In New Ways

Once through the Aun Gate, Naruto X Boruto Fuji Hidden Leaf Village is an expansive attraction with multiple components for guests to enjoy. There are mystery games guests can participate in with different skill level options. Guests can enjoy multiple photo opportunities walking through the Naruto-themed museum. During a 3D ride, guests listen to Bolt's guides and shoot at enemies.

Guests can win prizes by participating in three separate carnival-type games. Guests are also able to immerse themselves in "The Valley of the End" battle between Naruto and Sasuke in a VR ride. In addition to this, there are themed restaurants, including one with a motif inspired by Ichiraku where guests can purchase original ramen, drinks, and snacks.
