There have been quite a few teams of Defenders over the years, with the Netflix crossover series using the name as well for an unrelated team of heroes. With possible discussion over the chance of seeing the real Defenders show up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans should get to know the other versions of the comic team, and thankfully Comixology has put together a sale to help!

When Doctor Strange first assembled his non-team of Defenders that included himself, the Hulk, Silver Surfer and Namor the Sub-Mariner, they were tasked with dealing with huge cosmic and magical threats to the Marvel universe, though they were occasionally manipulated by those same forces and forced into battle with other heroes.
The Avengers/Defenders war is a great example of this and features a huge matchup between the two powerhouse teams that is not to be missed. Of course, that isn't the only group of Defenders that Doctor Strange has assembled, as told in the Defenders: Secret Defenders collection when Strange brings together heroes like Wolverine, Spider-Woman, Darkhawk, and more!

After the Defenders went through a few membership changes that brought on a few X-Men and even a living Gargoyle, the Defenders were dismantled and the team disappeared. At least, until Strange once again needed the help of his former allies and a new series was launched with the original team that leaned heavily into the humor in Defenders: Indefensible.
Matt Fraction then launched yet another new version of the team with Doctor Strange in the lead again after the events of Fear Itself, and this time it featured old members like Silver Surfer and Namor alongside new additions like Iron Fist and Red She-Hulk, with the whole series now collected and on sale from Comixology!

Cullen Bunn would take the team in an entirely different direction with the Fearless Defenders, which was created by heroes Valkyrie and Misty Knight and assembled a group of powerful females like Dani Moonstar, Clea, and the first appearances of Hippolyta, Warrior Woman!
More recently a new cosmic threat appeared in a series of one-shots that brought the original members of the Defenders together again, though the team members are in very different places these days. The Best Defense collects the issues together for the first time as Doctor Strange's non-team is once again forced to work together!
