Ready Player One Pays Tribute to Superman in New Promo

A new promo for Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One is packed with even more Easter eggs, including a nod to Superman -- and John Williams' iconic movie theme.

Set to a rocking soundtrack of A-ha's "Take on Me," the footage offers an extended look at the highly anticipated adaptation of Ernest Cline's 2011 sci-fi novel. As well as the Iron Giant and a hovering DeLorean, we see the movie's leads in action as they try to save their dystopian world. However, how could anyone miss our first big Superman nod?

One scene depicts the avatar of Tye Sheridan's Wade Watts going undercover in the virtual-reality simulator known as OASIS. Olivia Cooke's Art3mis tells him to put on a pair of glasses to disguise himself as "Clark Kent." "I'm not wearing that," responds Wade, only to return, clad in the glasses and suit, to the unmistakable notes of Williams' "Superman Theme."

While the Man of Steel is a pretty obvious nod to pop culture, the rest of Ready Player One is littered with references to the likes of Back to the Future, Jurassic Park and King Kong.

Spielberg and Warner Bros. are certainly cashing in on our love of the movies, so expect the marketing campaign for Ready Player One to hit full steam for the rest of the month. Whether the Clark Kent scene turns out to be an integral part of the movie or just a cutaway, at least we know one of the biggest comic book icons of our time gets a mention.

Opening March 29, Ready Player One stars Tye Sheridan as Wade Watts/Parzival, Olivia Cooke as Samantha Cook/Art3mis, Ben Mendelsohn as Nolan Sorrento, and Mark Rylance as James Halliday.
