Ready Player One was a fascinating science fiction book, one that became so popular that it got the adaptation treatment. But what changes were made in the course of that adaptation? And what about all of the secondary characters, for that matter?

I-R0k is a character that made it into both the book and the movie, yet there's still plenty to learn about this guy. Least of which are all of the changes he (we assume) went through between the two versions.

So stay tuned if you want to learn more about i-R0k, especially if you've only seen one version of him (movie or book).

This list contains spoilers from the book and movie.

10 History Of Doxxing

Remember how finding the keys was a major point in Ready Player One? Well, as it turns out, i-R0k didn't take too well to others finding the keys before him. Especially not somebody he looked down on, such as Wade (whom he called "Captain-No-Credits").

So when Wade and Aech found the Copper Key, i-R0k went a little bit nuts. Okay, a lot nuts. He threatened to doxx them, that is, reveal their information to the world. When they didn't buy his threat, he even went through with it. Though many people didn't actually believe his "proof" for who they were in the real world.

9 Likely The Reason The Sixers Found The Key

The Sixers (or the Sux0rz if you read the book) were working hard to try and find the keys for their company. But here's the thing – they probably wouldn't have, at least not so quickly, if not for i-R0k's actions.

At least, not in the book. Remember how we just went over how he doxxed Wade? He did so on the forums, and while most people were willing to overlook his post, it caught the attention of the Sixers, or so Wade and his friends believe. This set them on a path that would allow them to follow, and threaten, the rest of the characters.

8 Bigger Role In The Movie

This may or may not come as a surprise to hear, but did you know that i-R0k's roles between the book and the movie were vastly different? In fact, his role became much bigger for the sake of the movie, a surprising twist for many.

Some fans will argue that these two characters are actually not the same, because they are so different. Honestly, that's not a crazy theory, because i-R0k really did change drastically. What do you think? Same characters, or did they just take the name for the sake of ease?

7 The Book Version

In the book, i-R0k is an obnoxious gamer that Wade seems to come up against again and again. But honestly? That's about the extent of it. He's basically a glorified version of an online troll, especially when you throw in the whole doxxing subplot.

Yes, he had a hand in getting the villains after Wade (probably), but that's basically the end of his involvement with the plot. Not much like the character you remember from the movie, huh?

6 Turning Into A Villain

In the movie, i-R0k had a much bigger role. He was a minor antagonist, but an antagonist nonetheless. He made appearances throughout most of the movie and generally earned the status of villain (as opposed to troll).

He was basically an arms dealer of some sort, as well as a mercenary. Additionally, he's the secondary antagonist, not just because of his actions, but because of who he works for (Nolan Sorrento).

5 Losing A Limb

i-R0k had a really bad run of luck in the movie, but given that he's an antagonist and all, it's hard to feel bad for him. One event that fans of the book won't be aware of is the damage he took during one of the battles (because in the book he wasn't, you know, there for that battle).

In the movie, during one of the more dramatic points, he lost his arm to Sho. It was actually a really satisfying scene, all things considered.

4 Zero Status

Here's a quick reminder for you; wiping a character in this world actually had ramifications, even though it was a game. If your character dies, you lose all of the skill points and items you've been collecting, potentially for years. That's a big deal, especially to anybody who has sunk significant time and money into it.

People like i-R0k. At the end of the movie (spoiler warning), i-R0k was unable to get away fast enough. That means he didn't get through the escape portal in time, and ultimately got destroyed there. That means he lost about ten years' worth of progress. 10 years. Dude may be a jerk, but that still hurts.

3 A Combination of Characters

i-R0k's look and attitude are based on several characters. Or at least, he certainly reminds fans of several different characters. He was originally supposed to resemble Skeletor in looks, though the skull on his chest is also reminiscent of a few other characters that bear the emblem.

Meanwhile, i-R0k was based on Boba Fett personality-wise. You'll notice that he even used an iconic phrase during the movie ("as you wish"). Obviously, all of these references only apply to the movie version of i-R0k, not the book version.

2 An Alias

Despite the fact that i-R0k is an antagonist in the movie, and a major pest in the books, we never learn that much about his character. Relatively speaking, that is. Yes, we learn what he is capable of, and we certainly learn a lot about his avatar.

But about the guy (or girl) behind it? Nope. We never even learn i-R0k's real name, as hard as that may be to believe. That applies to both the book and the movie.

1 Quoting The Greats

It's not every day you see an antagonist willing to quote other memorable lines from movies. But that is exactly what i-R0k did, towards the end of the movie. You can hear him talking to Nolan Sorrento towards the end, and he's quoting It's a Wonderful Life ("no man is a failure as long as he has friends").
