Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One debuted at the top of the box office this weekend with an estimated four-day total of $53 million, while Black Panther reached yet another milestone during its seventh frame of release.

Estimates initially placed the adaptation of Ernest Cline's novel on track for a $45 million debut, but positive word of mouth helped the film beat expectations and open nearly $10 million higher. While that's not necessarily a blockbuster debut, considering the film's reported $175 million production budget, Warner Bros.seems pleased with the film's reception.

Ready Player One opened to a stunning $61.7 million in China, making it the studio's biggest opening in there. With the China box office, the film is sitting at $181.2 million worldwide.

Meanwhile, director Ryan Coogler's Black Panther continues to break records well into its seventh week, passing $650 million at the domestic box office after adding $11 million over the weekend. That makes it the fifth-highest release in the U.S. of all time. It also looks set to surpass both Jurassic World ($652 million) and Titanic ($659 million) within the next week.
