Re-Animator director Stuart Gordon has passed away at the age of 72. Representatives for the filmmaker have not disclosed the cause of death at this time.

"Stuart was a lovely man, a dear friend, a client for nearly a decade, and he will be greatly missed," an agent for Gordon told Deadline. He was an icon in the horror genre, a loved mentor and bright light that inspired and encouraged aspiring genre film makers to excel at their craft. He left his finger prints on the film industry for generations to come to enjoy."

Gordon made a name for himself in the horror genre with 1980s cult films such as Re-Animator, From Beyond and Dagon. He is also a co-creator of the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids franchise with Brian Yuzna and Ed Naha, and was an executive producer on the sequel, Honey I Blew Up the Kid and writer for the live-action TV series. Along with his wife, Carolyn Purdy-Gordon, they founded the Organic Theater Company.

Some of Gordon's other film credits include 1992's Fortress, 1996's Space Truckers, 1998's The Wonderful Ice Cream Suit, 2003's King of Ants, 2006's Edmund and 2007's Stuck.
