Recently, rap has risen to be the top genre of music among all countries, and rap artists have often expressed their love for anime in their lyrics on many occasions. And, in most cases, these aren't simple, casual references but ones that prove a deep reverence for and knowledge of anime.

10 Naruto In "New Patek" By Lil Uzi Vert

In November of 2018, "New Patek" by Grammy-nominated recording artist, Lil Uzi Vert, was released. He used the song to reference one of his favorite anime by saying, "Throw up gang signs, Naruto / Put metal in my nose like Pain."

The lyrics pay homage to the hand seals used for Jutsu and the face jewelry of one of the main antagonists, Pain, in the series Naruto. The rapper is known to be a longtime anime fan with albums inspired by other series like Death Parade and Dragon Ball.

9 Dragon Ball In "Running Up Freestyle" By Megan Thee Stallion

Record-breaking, international recording artist,Megan Thee Stallion debuted the song, "Running Up Freestyle," with the release of her first commercial mixtape, Fever. It came as no shock to fans that the lyrics contained more than one anime reference, as Megan has done so many times before in her music followed by recognition from Viz Media and Crunchyroll.

Impressively, she expressed her appreciation for the main protagonist of the series, Dragon Ball, with the lyrics, "When I switch my hair to blonde I'm finna turn up like Goku."

8 Death Note In "Pumpkins Screams In The Dead Of Night" By Savage Ga$p (Feat. Shinigami)

300 Entertainment recording artist, Savage Ga$p, released "Pumpkins Scream In The Dead Of Night" on February 12, 2020. The song rose to popularity via TikTok and currently has over 220,000 videos uploaded using the audio. Savage Ga$p has revealed that he is a fan of anime by mentioning it in his music.

Specifically, he uses the lyrics, "Shinigami told me / 'Kill 'em,' I said, 'Let me grab my death note'," as wordplay to not only reference the series, Death Note but also shoutout the featured artist, Shinigami.

7 Soul Eater in "Leap Of Faith" By Ro Ransom (Feat. Casey Veggies)

Listed as the 11th track on Ro Ransom's first self-released mixtape, Ransomnia, "Leap Of Faith" came out in June of 2012. The artist showcased his admiration for the series, Soul Eater, using the lyrics, "Two girls with me like I'm Death the Kid."

The line was used to reference Death the Kid, a character in Soul Eater that is obsessed with symmetry and keeps two girls, Elizabeth and Patricia Thompson, that transform into the two pistols he uses as weapons, by his side to maintain balance.

6 Naruto in "Catch Me Outside" By Ski Mask The Slump God

Florida rapper, Ski Mask The Slump God, released his first album You Will Regret (Reloaded) with the song, "Catch Me Outside" in February of 2018. The song used a beat produced by Timbaland for a 1999 Missy Elliot song, and quickly after its release, followed by a music video produced by Cole Bennett, the artist rose to fame.

On the track he uses the lyrics, "Naruto nine-tailed fox coat fur," to reference the nine-tailed beast in the series, Naruto. Ski Mask does this often as a lot of his music is inspired by animation.

5 One Punch Man In "Crescendo" By The Underachievers

In May of 2017, the musical duo, The Underachievers— comprised of AK The Savior and Issa Gold— released their album, Renaissance. On the album was the song "Crescendo," in which the Brooklyn rapper, AK The Savior says, "Like Saitama, I got no challenge."

This was a reference to the main protagonist, Saitama, in the series One-Punch Man. AK The Savior fans recognize his appreciation for anime as he has made references to different series like Dragon Ball in a few of his other verses in various songs.

4 Dragon Ball in "Wat's Wrong" By Isaiah Rashad (Feat. Zacari & Kendrick Lamar)

Tennessee rapper and 2016 BET Award performer, Isaiah Rashad, released the song "Wat's Wrong" as a track on his latest album The Sun's Tirade. In the song, he uses the lyrics, "And we alright / The Kaio Ken and big old rims."

It was a reference to Kaio Ken, a technique invented by King Kai and used by Goku as a means to increase their power and speed during a battle in the series Dragon Ball. Fans agree that the line is unique as it points attention to the character's ability rather than the character himself.

3 Pokemon in "Peek A Boo" By Migos

In June of 2016, the multi-Grammy award-winning rap group, Migos, released their sequel mixtape No Label II with the track "Peek A Boo." The song's opening line, "My diamonds, Pikachu," was a reference to Pikachu, an electric-type Pokémon owned by Ash Ketchem, in the series Pokémon.

Rapper Quavo used it as a play on words to describe the yellow coloring of his canary diamonds and how they sparkle, or "Pikapika", in Japanese.

2 Naruto in "Mural" By Lupe Fiasco

Grammy award-winning and 12-time Grammy-nominated recording artist, Lupe Fiasco, released the album Tetsuo & Youth in January of 2015. On the album was the song "Mural," in which he rapped the line, "Sound village, Leaf village / Wolf spirit, magic spells."

The lyrics he used were references to the Hidden Sound Village, Hidden Leaf Village, and the nine-tailed beast in the series, Naruto. Lupe Fiasco is an avid anime fan and has even said he watches more anime than his fellow rapper and known anime lover, Childish Gambino.

MellowHigh, a Los Angeles rap group with members all from the hip-hop collective, Odd Future, released their first and only album MellowHigh in October of 2013.

The album featured the song "Cold Word," on which Queens rapper, Remy Banks, collaborated with the group. Remy Banks' verse held the line, "In my borough, feeling unstoppable like Tetsuo," which was a reference to the anime movie, Akira specifically, Tetsuo, one of the main characters who takes on an entire army in the film.
