The Amazing Spider-Man is one of the greatest superheroes of all time, and in turn, has one of the greatest rogues galleries of all time as well. With close to sixty years worth of Spider-Man stories out there though, that means that over the years he's come across more than his fair share of lame villains.

Even narrowing the field down to Spider-Man's upper echelon of villains presents itself with some lame ones. With some of those lame villains making their way into the movies, here is a look at Spider-Man's comic book villains, ranked from lamest to coolest.

10 Shocker

The Shocker has been in Spider-Man's rogues' gallery for decades. He's been in the movies, the cartoons, the video games, and was even a member of the Masters of Evil. The Shocker's vibro-smashers have caused some trouble for Spider-Man over the years, but 99% of the time he's easy to defeat.

Since he's easy to defeat, he's had his share of embarrassing moments over the years. Plus he looks like a walking quilt. Lame!

9 Vulture

Spider-Man battles the Vulture

The Vulture is one of Spider-Man's oldest villains - in more ways than one. He first encountered Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man #2. He's also at an age where he should be retired instead of flying around New York robbing banks and fighting a guy with the proportionate strength and speed of a spider.

Despite being a founding member of the Sinister Six and getting a great portrayal by Michael Keaton in Spider-Man: Homecoming, it's nearly impossible to look past the fact that the Vulture is just a flying senior citizen. Lame!

8 Electro

Electro taunts his foe to challenge him.

Another founding member of the Sinister Six who has a movie appearance under his belt is Electro. One of Spider-Man's most powerful villains, Electro is definitely a force to be reckoned with.

Despite Electro's power, he loses cool points because of his mask. Even though he'll zap you for doing so, you can't help but laugh at it. Plus, he can be taken out with a hose. Lame!

7 The Lizard

Breaking the streak of founding Sinister Six members (though he would later join the team, as most Spider-Man villains have over the years) is the Lizard. Curt Connors was featured in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, though we wouldn't see his reptilian counterpart until Marc Webb's Amazing Spider-Man.

The Lizard gets cool points not only for appearing in two of the three Spider-Man franchises but because of the fact that he's a talking lizard in a lab coat.

6 Kraven The Hunter

Kraven the Hunter

Kraven The Hunter has yet to be featured in a Spider-Man movie, but can proudly say he is a founding member of the Sinister Six, so in your face Lizard!

For many years, Kraven was in an interesting tier of Spider-Man villains. He was a respected foe, but "evil hunter in lion vest and yoga pants" made it hard to take him too seriously. Then Kraven's Last Hunt came out. Ever since then he gained instant street cred and forever ranks among Spider-Man's deadliest foes. He's cool now, and when he gets into the MCU he'll be even cooler.

5 Mysterio

A Spider-Man villain who has been in the MCU is Mysterio. The master illusionist is also a founding member of the Sinister Six, which makes sense since it's basically the cool kids club of Spider-Man villains. (Apologies to Sandman, who was neither lame enough or cool enough to make this list because turning into sand is cool but getting it stuck on you at the beach isn't).

Mysterio's appearance in Spider-Man: Far From Home gets him cool points on its own, but his remarkable design gets him a spot as well. He wears a fishbowl on his head and makes it look good! Add in the fact that Mysterio worked his way into the Old Man Logan comic and you have yourself one cool dude.

4 Doctor Octopus

Doctor Octopus

If the Sinister Six is the cool kids club of Spider-Man villains then the guy who founded the Sinister Six has to be cool, right? Enter Doctor Octopus!

Doctor Octopus's place at the cool table was forever set when he appeared in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2, which is still looked at today as one of the greatest comic book movies of all time. And to further cement his legacy, in the comics a dying Doctor Octopus switched bodies with Spider-Man, which not only gave him the ultimate victory over Spider-Man but allowed him to become a "superior" version of the Wall-Crawler as well.

3 The Green Goblin

A list of coolest Spider-Man villains wouldn't be complete without an appearance from arguably his greatest villain, Norman Osborn, AKA the Green Goblin.

The Green Goblin combines the cunning of Lex Luthor with the insanity of the Joker. He was the go-to villain to kick off the first-ever Spider-Man film franchise. He inspired numerous copycats and successors. And he changed the face of comics forever the night Gwen Stacy died - what's cooler than ushering in an entirely new era?

2 Carnage

Debuting in the 1990s, Carnage hit the ground running and never looked back. He's so cool that he's had not one but two different event comics named after him, the 90s classic Maximum Carnage and then the more recent story Absolute Carnage.

And when he makes his much anticipated big-screen debut then it's going to be Maximum Cool Carnage!

1 Venom

What started out as Spider-Man's cool new comic book costume grew into his coolest villain - Venom. If Venom weren't so cool then there would never have been a Carnage. Fans instantly ate up Venom's every appearance upon his comics debut and couldn't get enough of him.

His popularity grew so high that he had to be turned into an antihero to keep up, and the void left by Venom led to the creation of Carnage.  His popularity led to him getting his own movie, unheard of at the time for a character largely considered a villain. The movie, of course, was a huge success, and with a sequel in the works, Venom's cool just can't be contained.
