It’s Tuesday! It’s 5ish! That can only mean one of several hundred things! It’s random thoughts time! Get excited!
Random Thought! A big thank you for all of the support and sponsorship during my blogathon this past Saturday and Sunday. So far, it has raised $225 for the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund. I’m not finalising that tally until the end of the week, so if you want to donate, just go to the CBLDF’s website, give whatever you can, and then tell me via comment or e-mail. And, of course, if you can’t, no worries.
Random Thought! I like this week’s issue of Incredible Hercules a little bit better than last issue. Still not sold on the series, though.
Random Thought! Weirdest off-shoot of the blogathon? Someone sponsored me, but was also won over by my discussion of Ryan Adams in one of the posts (yes, in one post, I discussed Ryan Adams in addition to Brian Michael Bendis) and downloaded the song “Magick” off my recommendation. As well should you all. “Magick” by Ryan Adams & the Cardinals is my favourite song of 2008. Just over two minutes long, catchy as hell… how was it not a giant hit?
Random Thought! I feared that the blogathon would make me not want to read or write about comics again for a while… thankfully, that’s not true. I love comics more than ever. I didn’t think it possible, but here we are.
Random Thought! Gravel and Doktor Sleepless are both very underrated series and I look forward to each and every issue. Gravel is good for fans of Hellblazer, but wish that John Constantine would just fuck people up more. Doktor Sleepless is the thematic sequel to Transmetropolitan, but much more serious and grand in scope. It was slow at the beginning, but it hit its stride around issue four or five… and the revelation of what the good Doktor is doing… wow. The current storyarc has been very good. It comes out at a snail’s pace, but definitely worth it.
Random Thought! Here’s something I’m somewhat embarrassed about. Years ago, I sent in a submission package to Com.X and got a response asking for more. Never heard anything after that, but that’s cool. What’s embarrassing, the title of the book was “The Atlanteans,” but I spelled it “Atlantians.” Truly I am a moron.
Random Thought! I stand by my assertion during the blogathon that Warren Ellis is the best writer in mainstream superhero comics today.
Random Thought! I don’t know what else to say.
