Sylvester Stallone will be back for more blood in a "Rambo" television series being developed by Fox.

According to Entertainment Weekly, "Rambo: New Blood" pays homage to the original action films while exploring the complex relationship between Stallone's former Green Beret John Rambo and his son J.R., an ex-Navy SEAL.

Stallone and Avi Lerner will executive produce the project, with Jeb Stuart ("Die Hard") serving as showrunner.

Word of a potential "Rambo" TV series first surfaced in 2013, when Lerner partnered with Entertainment One and Nu Image to develop the project. At the time, Stallone's involvement wasn't certain.

Stallone co-wrote and starred in the 1982 action film "First Blood," based on David Morrell’s 1972 novel of the same name about a misunderstood Vietnam War veteran who must use his skills to survive an abusive small-town sheriff. The film spawned three sequels: 1985’s "Rambo: First Blood Part II," 1988’s "Rambo III" and 2008’s "Rambo."
