An enormous statue of Sylvester Stallone's iconic character, John Rambo, has been erected in the town of Hope, B.C., the exact location where the 1982 action movie Rambo: First Blood was filmed. The statue was unveiled on Aug. 14.

Stallone posted photos of his likeness on his official Instagram early last week, thanking the town of hope and the wood sculptor responsible, Ryan Villiers, for this permanent installment in the town’s architecture. Villiers, an artist based in Edmonton, Canada, carved this muscular monument to the fictional hero using only a chainsaw and a block of Western red cedar.

While Stallone’s caption mentions that two statues were unveiled, there only seems to be one. Nonetheless, the carving took Villiers two months to complete, standing at seven feet tall, and still remains an artistic feat. Villiers is an accomplished chainsaw artist and has carved the likenesses of various movie heroes, such as The Batman and Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy. The town of Hope considers itself the "Chainsaw carving capital" of the world, with over 80 wooden statues displayed around the town center.

In July, Stallone used his Instagram to announce the release of the extended cut of Rambo: Last Blood on iTunes. The extended cut includes a new opening sequence as well as 12 additional minutes of footage. Last Blood was considered Stallone’s final appearance as John Rambo in 2019, though the actor insinuated Rambo “could be back,” alluding to a possible sixth installment in the Rambo series.
