WARNING: The following contains spoilers for the first three episodes of Raised by Wolves, available now on HBO Max.

Ridley Scott's Raised by Wolves wades into the director's love for robots. Initially, it appears that the show will focus on only the two main androids, with Mother (Amanda Collin) and Father (Abubakar Salim) raising kids on Keppler-22B to restart humanity. However, in the three episodes so far, several kinds of androids pop up.

They all have different purposes, both back on a destroyed Earth and here on this new world, and these bots will have huge roles in defining the future. So, with that said, let's look at the different kinds of androids introduced so far.

THE SERVICE MODELS

Service models are pretty basic, following simple algorithms and logic. They stick to their purpose as seen with Voreena, who's programmed to follow the religious group, the Mithraic. Her kind is willing to offer themselves up or even become warriors, which is evident when a male one tries to ambush Mother her settlement in order for Marcus' troops to take Campion back to the Ark, Heaven.

Father's also a service model, but he was reprogrammed to commit a sin in the Mithraic eyes: taking embryos to this new planet with the intention of raising them. He functions only to protect the children and their barracks, which runs him into conflict with Mother when he thinks she's becoming dangerous. No matter which side, though, these androids cannot stray from their core objective, no matter what, and they blend in, as seen when Mother tried to fool the Mithraic at one point.

THE MEDIC BOTS

These androids also look like humans, made evident by the flashbacks to Caleb's time in the war. He fought in 2145 for the atheists against the Mithraic and picked up a burning medical bot from a chopper. He'd then program the android to do facial reconstructive surgery on him and Mary, turning them into Marcus and Sue, so they could fake identities and gain access to the Ark. This kind of bot's easy to manipulate, but it's useful when someone needs medical attention.

This kind is much more compassionate and humane, which makes sense as they're med-workers and frontline aid to humans. It would appear as if the Mithraic used this kind of bot in the war frequently, especially to go after the atheists who had their own killing machines in the air razing Earth.

THE NECROMANCERS

Mother's a Necromancer, a type of android that can change its appearance that was used by the Mithraic to kill any human it looks at. Ultimately, the only mission for this class is to kill. Sure, Mother was reprogrammed with a caregiver directive after the Mithraic initially created her class, but now with a new purpose, once she has her original eyes, she can turn into a machine of death. This kind of android operates as a master hunter and is a being that humans fear immensely as they were designed to eradicate mankind. Necromancers are simply the strongest and most unforgiving of them all.

Created by Aaron Guzikowski and produced by Ridley Scott, Raised by Wolves stars Amanda Collin, Abubakar Salim, Winta McGrath, Niamh Algar, Jordan Loughran, Matias Varela, Felix Jamieson, Ethan Hazzard, Aasiya Shah, Ivy Wong and Travis Fimmel. New episodes arrive each Thursday on HBO Max.
