Rainbow Brite is an adventurous and eventful series that many of us remember from our childhood. But you might be surprised to hear that there are plenty of facts we don't know (or remember) the characters that made up of the series.

The fact that there's been a comic (and a reboot) doesn't help much either, as much has changed. Still, many of the changes have been for the better, further expanding upon the world by adding even more characters and plots for Rainbow Brite to contend with.

There's something so fun and exciting about looking back to characters and series like this, and seeing all of the little details we missed out on. We hope you enjoy these tidbits as much as we did!

10 Murky's Change In Status

During the original animated series, we didn't see much interaction between Murky and the Dark Princess. That was with intent, as they were actually distinct characters with different goals and motives.

However, in the reboot we saw all of that change. Suddenly Murky was working with the Dark Princess! Now he's her henchman, and there's really no denying that fact. Do you like this change, or does it still bother you?

9 Stormy's Not What You Think

It's easy to look at this series and assume that Stormy is a Color Kid. But you'd be wrong. She's not technically one of the Color Kids, even though she tends to get grouped with them all of the time.

In fact, it was until 2014 that she was given any official status at all. Then she gained the status of 'Sentinel of Light' during the cartoon series. That somehow feels more fitting for her character, so we're not going to complain!

8 Moonglow's Original Design

Here's another fun fact for you: did you know that Moonglow originally had a different character design? Admittedly they didn't change her all that much before the series launched. But we can't ignore this one change.

Originally, Moonglow was designed to have white hair. Yes, you read that right. However, the creative team opted not to go with that color, because they were afraid that it would give the impression that she was much older than she actuall was.

7 Lack of Color

Here's another fun fact about Stormy for you. Did you know that she doesn't actually represent any color? That's one of the real reasons she isn't and never was a Color Kid. It's one of those things that you probably never noticed as a kid, but now that you've seen it, you can unsee it.

That being said, if we were to assign a color to Stormy, most fans agree that it would be azure. Or a color that is very similar. Whatever makes you envision stormy and dark clouds, right?

6 A Name Dispute

If you spent any time online talking about Rainbow Brite, then the odds are good that you witnessed one major debate. As it turns out, a lot of fans simply couldn't (or wouldn't) agree on the spelling for Moonglow's name.

There were two major groups for this debate. Some fans were convinced that Moonglow was spelled with the 'W'. While others were convinced that you spelled her name without (as in: Moonglo).

It wasn't until Hallmark came out and confirmed the official spelling that everyone calmed down. In case you were wondering, it's Moonglow, 'W' included.

5 Jokes & References In The Color Kids

Some of the names in the Color Kids were clearly named in order to have fun or funny references (perhaps for the sake of the parents watching along? Or the older fans in the audience).

Red Butler is, obviously, the red oriented kid. His name is intentionally designed to be a play on 'Rhett Butler.' As in, Gone With the Wind. His name is the most fun, while everyone else seemed to go with rhyming or cutesy sounding names.

4 Only One

While there are plenty of Sprites with Stars on their antenna, there is only one Sprite with crescent moons instead.

We're talking about Nite Sprite. He's the only Night Sprite in Rainbow Land, which is interesting and enough to get many fans wondering – as was likely the intent. His unique look makes him stand out among the crowd, and admittedly he's one of the cuter Sprites (which is saying something).

3 Return To Rainbow Land

Return to Rainbow Land is the 2014 series, and while it may be hard to believe, the series covers Rainbow Brite as a teenager. She's once again been pulled out of her quiet world in order to face off against the Dark Princess.

The battles that follow are exactly what you might expect, even if you weren't aware of the reboot itself. We appreciate the attempt to age up Rainbow Brite a little bit, as many of us were wondering what she'd be like when she grew older.

2 No Name

While most of the characters in Rainbow Brite have names, there are a few iconic exceptions. Or rather, there's one major one that we can't avoid talking about. The Dark Princess. Did you ever notice that she never actually was given a name?

It's easy to assume that Dark Princess is just her title or alias, but we never see anybody address her by any other name. Not in any of the series. That's surprising, though it does sort of fit her whole mentality (of how she wanted to be worshiped above everything else).

1 Origins

Last, but not least, let's talk about the origin of the series itself. You might find this one hard to believe, but did you know that Rainbow Brite didn't originally appear as a TV show? No, her origin is drastically different.

You see, she first appeared on a Hallmark card. That actually makes quite a bit of sense, when you think about the company that owns her series. But it's probably not something you spent too much time thinking about, huh?
