Actor John Rhys-Davies, who appeared in two films in the Indiana Jones series as Sallah, gave fans hope that he may appear in Indiana Jones 5.

Rhys-Davies gave a coy answer to ComingSoon.net about starring in the upcoming Indiana Jones film. He said, "I understand the film is going to be made, allegedly in May. I have the slightest skepticism that the world will be able to shoot a movie like that in May. I suppose it is possible that I will be asked to be in it. If nominated I will serve!"

"But I think we ought to wait a little bit longer and, you know, let our masters actually make announcements and then you can either share my joy or my disappointment," he said. "Is that suitably diplomatic?"

Rhys-Davies played Sallah Mohammed Faisel el-Kahir, an Egyptian who aids Indiana Jones on his archaeological digs. He first appeared in Raiders of the Lost Ark, helping Jones recover the Ark of the Covenant. Rhys-Davies returned for Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, the third film in the series, but reportedly passed on a cameo in the fourth film, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

The long-in-development Indiana Jones 5 has gone through several changes in scriptwriter and director since it was announced in 2016.

Directed and written by James Mangold and starring Harrison Ford, the currently untitled fifth Indiana Jones film is set to be released on July 29, 2022.
