Rachel Weisz, who just last week was said to be negotiating for a lead role in Oz: The Great and Powerful, is now reportedly in talks for the Tony Gilroy-directed The Bourne Legacy. Make that in "deep talks."
According to Deadline, the actress would star opposite two-time Oscar nominee Jeremy Renner in the spinoff, designed to keep Universal's lucrative Bourne franchise alive in Matt Damon's absence. The movie won’t focus on Jason Bourne but rather an assassin from another covert government program even more dangerous than Treadstone. There aren't any details on Weisz's role.
Ideally, Weisz would accept parts in both films. However, Deadline suggests there may be a scheduling conflict, as Oz, which stars James Franco and Mila Kunis, is set to begin production this summer. Gilroy reportedly wants to start shooting The Bourne Legacy in September.
