After facing multiple delays already, Paramount's A Quiet Place 2 has been moved down the schedule again. The film is now planned for release on Sep. 17, 2021.

The sequel to 2018's A Quiet Place is the latest film to be hit by another delay as the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic continues to limit moviegoing and keep cinemas at low capacity, according to Variety

A Quiet Place Part II was originally scheduled for release all the way back in March 2020 and was among the first wave of movies that were postponed when theaters began to shut their doors to guard against the pandemic. It was given a new release date of Sep. 4, 2020, which was then pushed back again to April 23, 2021.

As that date approaches, however, it was evidently deemed to still be too soon, as a new surge of COVID-19 cases have been reported and many theaters remain closed. Along with other major studios, Paramount has been reluctant to release its blockbusters while audiences are still sparse even in those theaters which are currently open. Although some films which were intended for the big screen have opted instead for streaming services, or a simultaneous release in theaters and on streamers, Paramount still plans to hold A Quiet Place 2 for exclusive cinematic release.

The original A Quiet Place set up a post-apocalyptic world in which seemingly invulnerable monsters may attack at any time if attracted by loud sounds. The film follows a family who communicates through American sign language, keeping the monsters at bay while they attempt to find a way to permanently defeat them.

The film was a critical and commercial success and is even getting a spinoff, expanding the Quiet Place universe beyond the path of the Abbott family.

The summary for the direct sequel A Quiet Place 2 can be read below:

"In A Quiet Place Part II...the Abbott family must now face the terrors of the outside world as they continue their fight for survival in silence. Forced to venture into the unknown, they quickly realize that the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path."

Written and directed by John Krasinski, A Quiet Place Part II stars Emily Blunt, Djimon Hounsou, Noah Jupe, Millicent Simmonds and Cillian Murphy. The film hits theaters September 17, 2021.
