Speedsters, speedsters everywhere. The CW's television series The Flash has featured so many speedsters, both good and evil, that it's become oversaturated with them. The situation has become so dire that they had to export Kid Flash and the Reverse-Flash to the Legends. Other speedsters have taken to different Earths in order to reduce the speedster population of the Earth-1 Central City. On top of that, the DC Extended Universe has its own version of the Flash. But that's still not the end. In 2014, Quicksilver made his live-action debut in X-Men: Days of Future Past and one year later a different version of the character appeared in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

The Flash and Quicksilver are, of course, the best-known speedsters in their respective universes and have been around for decades. The Jay Garrick Flash was created way back in the '40s, while Quicksilver made his comic book debut in the '60s. According to available data and various fan calculations, the comic book version of the Flash is much faster than the comic book version of Quicksilver. However, complications ensue when it comes to live-action adaptations. And since these two love competing with each other so much, here are 20 hilarious Quicksilver vs. Flash memes.

20 COSTUME COMPETITION

The Flash Quicksilver Avengers Suit

Whenever there’s a new superhero or villain coming either to television or the big screen, there are two crucial issues that will be discussed to no end. Number one, which actor should get the part. And number two, what the costume should look like. With costumes it’s always about how faithful to the character’s comic book look will the live-action costume be. There’s always a pretty vocal fraction of fans who are adamant about the actor wearing an almost exact replica of the comic book costume. However, this is not the best option for every character, as some costumes simply wouldn’t work in live-action. Other times, the creators decide to go with a different look for the sake of originality.

When The CW first unveiled the costume Grant Gustin would be wearing as the Flash, reactions were mixed. While some were pleased with the design, others thought it was too different from what the Scarlet Speedster wears in the comics. Well, Barry Allen has had it with the complaints and he’s done keeping quiet about it. So, next time you find yourself thinking that the Flash doesn’t have a comic book-accurate costume, remember what Quicksilver sported in X-Men: Days of Future Past or what the other Quicksilver wore in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

19 WHO NEEDS A SUPERHERO COSTUME?

The Flash Quicksilver Suit

There’s nothing fans like discussing more than superhero costumes. It’s paramount that our favorite heroes look their best -- be it in the comics, on the big screen or small screen, live-action or animated. Live-action costumes, in particular, are hotly debated. At the beginning of The CW’s television series The Flash, Barry Allen experienced some difficulties channeling the Speed Force. So, in order to be able to run at high speeds, Barry was given a special protective suit. In the comics, Barry has a similar costume, but doesn't need it to be protected from the Speed Force. Still, whether he needs a suit or not, we can all agree that the Flash's costume on the show looks good, especially the latest version.

On the other hand, Quicksivler’s costume in Avengers: Age of Ultron just couldn’t live up to expectations. While it was pretty accurate, it didn’t have any personality. Aaron-Taylor Johnson looked as if he put on some goofy athletic wear in a hurry to catch up with the rest of the team. And we're not alone in this opinion. Looks like the Flash isn’t a big fan of Quicksilver’s costume either. Quicksilver, however, doesn’t seem to be too upset about the way his costume looks because he knows he can run just as fast without a it, unlike a certain other speedster.

18 THE FLASH VS. QUICKSILVER ON THE BIG SCREEN

The Flash Quicksilver Movies

These two are always trying to one-up each other. If it’s not about who’s faster, then it’s about who’s got more movies, who was the first one to appear in a movie and so on. Well, since they insist on competing with each other so much, let’s see who got where first. When it comes to comics, the Flash is the clear winner. The Barry Allen Flash was created by Robert Kanigher and Carmine Infantino, first appearing in Showcase #4 in fall of 1956. On the other hand, his Marvel counterpart Pietro Maximoff, aka Quicksilver, was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, and appeared for the first time in X-Men #4 in spring of 1964.

As for live-action adaptations, Barry Allen made his first live-action appearance in the two-part series Legends of the Superheroes, portrayed by Rob Haase, way back in 1979. Quicksilver was late to this party as well, since his first live-action appearance came in 2014 with the movie X-Men: Days of Future Past, where he was portrayed by Evan Peters. However, Quicksilver does win at least in one category: movies. Quicksilver made his big screen debut in 2014, but the Flash had to wait until 2016 for his first movie appearance. Plus, Evan Peters had a significant role to play in Days of Future Past, while Ezra Miller only had a brief cameo in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.

17 EVERYONE WINS AND EVERYONE LOSES

The Flash Quicksilver Racing

Super speed has to be one of the most awesome powers in all of comics. Especially, the kind of super speed that is granted through the Speed Force. The Flash is not only able to run above the speed of light, he can also manipulate time, phase through objects, create tornadoes and so on. In short, it’s a super power pretty much everyone would love to have. In the DC Comics Universe, the Flash is the fastest man alive. While, Quicksilver is one of the fastest characters in Marvel Comics Universe. But, the question is who is the fastest? Which of these two heroes would win in a race?

Given that the Flash can run above the speed of light, while the top speed Quicksilver reached was just above the speed of sound, in theory, the answer to the question should be obvious. However, it turned out to be a bit more complicated when put into practice. When the Flash and Quicksilver raced in the DC Comics Universe, the winner was obviously the Scarlet Speedster. But, the tables turned when the race took place in the Marvel Comics Universe. Unable to tap into the Speed Force, because it does not exist in the Marvel Universe, the Flash lost the race to Quicksilver. So, in the end, they both win and lose.

16 HOW TO GET ABS

The Flash Quicksilver Abs

In the first episode of The Flash, the adorable, nerdy CSI Barry Allen gets struck by lightning when the S.T.A.R. Labs’ particle accelerator experiences a slight malfunction and explodes. The accident puts Barry in a coma and in order to wake him up from his slumber Cisco plays Barry’s favorite song, Lady GaGa’s "Poker Face". Barry opens his eyes utterly confused at the sight of two complete strangers doting on him. Cisco and Caitlin explain to Barry that he had been struck by lightning and that he was brought to S.T.A.R. Labs, to which Barry replies ‘lightning gave me abs’ -- still unsure what to make of his two unusual new friends.

It’s been four years since that first episode aired but every fan of the show remembers this scene vividly, because who wouldn’t want to just wake up one day and have perfectly formed abs. Forget winning the lottery, imagine waking up from a coma to find out you’d been hit by lightning, that gave you super speed and abs just for good measure. However, Quicksilver didn’t need to resort to such cheap tricks to have abs. Pietro Maximoff earned his abs through hard work and dedication. Good on you, Quicksilver. If only you'd spent some time learning how to catch bullets though.

15 IN A FLASH

The Flash Quicksilver Saved

The main task of any superhero is to save people. Most superheroes become superheroes in order to protect those who can’t protect themselves. On The CW show The Flash, the titular speedster does everything in his power to save the people of Central City. Barry keeps on getting faster every season in order to be able to take on new threats and continue protecting his loved ones and his fellow citizens. So far, he’s done a commendable job, even though he's made some mistakes along the way.

The Quicksilver from the X-Men franchise used his super speed to save dozens of mutants from the explosion that happened at Xavier’s school. On the other hand, the MCU Quicksilver made only one appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Quicksilver managed to save Hawkeye and a Sokivian kid, but only at the cost of his own life. Unfortunately, he wasn’t fast enough to get Hawkeye and the kid out of dodge in time or to catch the bullets, so the only thing he could do was to use his body as a shield. A creative fan re-imagined the tragic scene with the Flash speeding in just in time to stop the bullets.

14 LIFE HAS LOST ALL MEANING

The Flash Quicksilver Faster

For speedsters the ultimate goal in life is to be the fastest. Barry Allen wants to be the fastest man alive so badly that he can’t help but start every single episode by stating that he is the fastest man alive, even if that isn’t necessarily the truth. Zoom went as far as going after other speedsters in order to steal their speed to become the fastest man alive. While Barry’s time remnant from the future made himself a speed deity in pursuit of speed. However, they’re not the only ones who aspire to hold the title of fastest man alive. X-Men’s Quicksilver also dreams of being faster than anyone else.

Sadly, someone decided to crush Quicksilver’s dreams and told him that the Flash is actually faster than him. Still, while this is true in the comics, it does not necessarily hold up when it comes to live-action versions of the characters. We did some digging and found evidence that the Quicksilver from the X-Men franchise is in fact much faster than The CW’s Flash. According to a video by the youtuber Super Science, the Flash can run as fast as Mach 41.5, while Quicksilver’s top speed is around Mach 5740. There’s no argument about who would win a race between these two, so please stop worrying poor Peter. Barry, on the other hand, has a lot to be worried about.

13 BLOCKING BULLETS

Barry Allen is super fast. As time goes by, he keeps getting faster and discovering new powers. The Flash can travel through time, throws lightning and, travel dimensions. The Flash's powers are not only vast and useful, they can change the game (and the entire universe) in a heartbeat. Among all those powers, of course, is his ability to catch bullets that are coming straight for him or one of his allies. Over the course of four seasons, Barry’s ability to catch a bullet saved his life, as well as the lives of others, on a number of occasions.

However, the way Barry catches bullets with ease spoiled us. The Flash made us believe that every speedster out there should be able to stop a speeding bullet and get out unscathed. So, when Quicksilver jumped in front of Hawkeye and that kid in Avengers: Age of Ultron, we had hoped he could stop the bullets without dying. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen (blocking bullets with his squishy body is his super power) and we had to say goodbye to Quicksilver entirely too early. Perhaps, the fastest Avenger could have asked the Flash for some advice, or his X-Men counterpart. They seem to be skilled in dealing with bullets.

12 FATHERS AND SONS

The Flash Quicksilver Fathers

If you’re a fan of The CW’s Flash series, you probably have Barry Allen’s tragic story memorized. When he was a child, his mother was murdered by a speedster from the future, called the Reverse-Flash. His father went to jail for her murder, prompting Barry to become a CSI and put all his time and effort into finding a way to prove his father’s innocence and get him out of prison. Eventually, Barry managed to do just that, but their reunion was short-lived, as his dad was murdered by yet another evil speedster -- Zoom. Yeah, he hasn’t had the best of luck with speedsters and parents.

On the other hand, Quicksilver grew up with his mom and never even knew his dad. However, considering his father is Magneto, perhaps not having him around wasn't such a bad deal after all. While Magneto does have redeeming qualities, certain things he’s done over the years make it impossible to classify him as a hero. In X-Men: Days of Future Past, Magneto was locked up in Pentagon, the most impenetrable prison in the world. Unlike his DC Comics counterpart, Quicksilver didn’t rely on the justice system to get his dad out. With the help of Charles Xavier, Wolverine and Hank McCoy, Peter broke his villain dad out of prison.

11 IF SUPERHEROES HAD SOCIAL MEDIA

The Flash Quicksilver Twitter

Considering how much we rely on social media today, it’s sometimes hard to remember a time when Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and all that other stuff didn't exist. A time when the first thing you did when you got to the airport wasn’t checking in on Facebook but at the gate. A time when you’d watch the latest episode of your favorite show and call a friend to tell them your opinion rather than tweeting live reactions as you watch. A time when you’d go on a vacation and take photos for the sake of preserving memories and not just to document every single moment on Instagram. Yes, such a time did exist. Though, it seems very distant from today’s point of view.

Social media has become an integral method of communication and oftentimes we like to imagine fictional characters having social media accounts and communicating with each other the way us regular people do. There are even videos on YouTube along the lines of ‘If Avengers had Tinder’ and so on and so forth. So, ever wondered what would the Scarlet Speedster do with a Twitter account? According to this hilarious meme, the Flash would use Twitter to roast his Marvel counterpart Quicksilver.

10 YEAH WE DID

The Flash Quicksilver Zoom Saw It

The amount of memes poking fun at Quicksilver for being too slow to catch the bullets in Avengers: Age of Ultron is too damn high. With that in mind, here's one that uses the same scene but to make fun of what he says instead. As Hawkeye shields the boy with his body and braces for the onslaught of bullets, he is shocked to realize that the bullets never came. He turns around to find Qiucksilver standing heroically in front of him, riddled with bullet holes, covered in blood, barely staying on his feet, uttering his last words "You didn't see that coming" and finally collapsing on the ground.

While the scene was sad and kind of heartwarming, everyone was pretty upset about the fact that Quicksilver, despite having super speed, wasn't able to catch the bullets. This has been ridiculed in all kinds of memes. This meme, however, takes a slightly different approach. Perhaps Hawkeye didn't see Quicksilver's heroic sacrifice coming, but other speedsters much faster than Quicksilver saw it all from a mile away. The question is, if they did see it, why didn't they help the poor guy? Okay, we get why Zoom wouldn't exactly be up for playing the hero, but this seems like something Barry would most certainly intervene with. Shame on you, Mr. Allen.

9 USAIN LIGHTNING BOLT

The Flash Quicksilver Bolt

Every episode of the Flash starts with Barry Allen introducing himself, like so: "My name is Barry Allen, and I am the fastest man alive. To the outside world, I am an ordinary forensic scientist. But secretly, with the help of my friends at S.T.A.R. Labs, I fight crime and find other meta-humans like me." However, as we all know by now, Barry’s bold claim about being the fastest man alive isn’t necessarily true. In season one, the Reverse-Flash was looking at Barry in his rear-view mirror. In season two, Barry was eating Zoom's dust. And in season three the self-proclaimed God of Speed, Savitar, showed us just how slow Barry really is by dragging our hero from timeline to timeline.

And now, new contenders are coming forward to claim the title of the fastest man alive. Quicksilver demonstrated his incredible powers in X-Men: Days of Future Past as well as in X-Men: Apocalypse, but does that mean he truly is the fastest man alive? Well, not if Usain Bolt has anything to say about it. The Jamaican sprinter, who holds the world record in 100 meters, 200 meters and 4 x 100 meters, doesn’t need the X-gene or the Speed Force to be the fastest man alive.

8 YOU GOT THE WRONG SPEEDSTER

The Flash Quicksilver Guns

The Flash has been shown catching bullets both in the comics and in The CW’s television series The Flash. In one of the early episodes of The Flash, just as Barry was walking out of CC Jitters, a mugger put a gun to his head and demanded his wallet. Barry couldn't stop laughing and told the poor, confused mugger that if there was an Olympics for bad luck he didn’t just medal, he Michael Phelpsed. Once the mugger started counting down for Barry to relinquish his wallet or get shot, Barry stripped him down to his undies and fetched a cop to arrest him.

Not only was Barry not afraid of getting shot, he thought that the very idea of the mugger picking him out of hundreds of thousands of people in Central City was awesome and hilarious. He toyed with the man, never once considering the fact that the mugger just might fire his gun. And the reason Barry didn’t care is because he knew that even if the mugger did attempt to shoot him, he could easily catch the bullet. Judging by the above meme, the Rogues seem to have forgotten about Barry’s bullet dodging techniques or they confused him with Quicksilver. And we all know, that guy can’t be trusted to catch a bullet without getting killed.

7 SPEEDSTERS STICK TOGETHER

Quicskilver The Flash Speedsters Stick Together

Quicksilver made his debut in the X-Men movie franchise in X-Men: Days of Future Past, which came out in May of 2014. Despite the unusual portrayal of the character, Quicksilver quickly became a fan-favorite. Evan Peters, who played Todd in Kick-Ass, stole the show in that awesome kitchen scene you know you'll never forget. In X-Men: Apocalypse, a movie that received more criticism than praise, Evan Peters and his Quicksilver stole the show once again. Nothing in the entire movie can live up to those glorious four minutes of Quicksilver running to the tune of Eurythmics’ "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)". When X-Men: Dark Phoenix was announced everyone was wondering if the silver-haired speedster will be coming back.

Earlier this year, it has indeed been announced that Evan Peters will be reprising his role as Quicksilver in the upcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix, much to everyone's delight. But what would have happened if Quicksilver wasn’t set to appear in Dark Phoenix -- apart from fan riots and petitions all over the internet? Well, turns out there was absolutely nothing to worry about. If such a tragedy had happened, Quicksilver’s good pal the Flash would have had his back. We all know Barry Allen’s true passion in life is changing timelines, so he’d probably be more than happy to help out a fellow speedster.

6 THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT

The Flash Quicksilver Notes

Quicksilver’s heroic, but untimely, death in Avengers: Age of Ultron didn’t quite land the way it was supposed to. The moment was certainly meant to carry emotional weight and leave a strong impact on the audience, kind of like all those deaths in Avengers: Infinity War (spoiler alert). However, once the credits rolled, and we had sat through all the mid and post-credit scenes, all we could think about was how Quicksilver should have been fast enough to stop those bullets without using himself as a shield.

The CW’s Flash has been stopping speeding bullets since season one and X-Men’s Quicksilver was fast enough to goof around with about five armed security guards and get rid of the myriad of bullets. Yet, the Quicksilver we got in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was far too slow to catch the bullets or get Hawkeye and the boy to safety. Not surprisingly, tons of memes have been created poking fun at Aaron Taylor-Johnson and his Quicksilver for being so easy to kill. This hilarious meme uses a panel from the comics to teach Quicksilver how to properly catch bullets. The Flash seems to be completely unfazed by all the gunfire surrounding him while he calmly collects the bullets one by one.

5 TRYING TO EXPLAIN COMICS TO NON-FANS

The Flash Types

Have you ever been put into a position where you have to explain comics to people whose knowledge about the real of comic books can best be summed up in one word (Superman)? Or perhaps you took your parents to one of the MCU movies and on the ride home they kept asking you why Superman wasn’t invited to join the Avengers? Surely, most of us have been through this torturous experience at least once in our lives. And while explaining comics to non-fans is frustrating in and of itself, heroes with similar powers make this task all the more difficult.

The DC Comics Universe has way too many speedsters for us to go over every single one of them here, but at the very least you have to mention Flash, Reverse-Flash and maybe Kid Flash. As for Marvel, you have to talk about Quicksilver. Now once you start showing pictures of these characters and explaining who’s who and who belongs where, the people who are trying to follow you will probably need to establish an easier way to distinguish between all the speedsters. Unfortunately, that may lead to them developing a system similar to the one featured on the hilarious meme you see above and that can't end well.

4 WAIT UP GUYS!

The Flash Quicksilver X-Men Avengers

Alright, so we’ve gotten quite a few speedsters over the last four years. First, in May of 2014, we got Quicksilver in X-Men: Days of Future Past, portrayed by Evan Peters. Later that year, The CW premiered its second Arrowverse show The Flash with Grant Gustin as Barry Allen. Over the course of four seasons, Barry encountered other speedsters, friends and foes alike. Such as Kid Flash, Jesse Quick, Reverse-Flash, Zoom and so on. In 2015, yet another version of Quicksilver, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, made its way on the big screen in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Last but not least, in 2016, the DCEU Flash, portrayed by Ezra Miller, appeared in Batman v. Superman.

But how fast are these speedsters? Barry keeps telling us he’s the fastest man alive, but is he really? Let’s see which one of these speedsters truly is the fastest man alive. Spoiler: it’s not the MCU's Quicksilver. Youtuber Super Science calculated that the maximum speed The CW Flash has reached is around Mach 41.5, while the maximum speed the X-Men Quicksilver was able to reach is Mach 5740. On the other hand, the MCU Quicksilver is much slower than his competitors. How much slower you ask. Well, according to the youtuber Gubz, the MCU Quicksilver at his fastest runs at Mach 4. So, this meme is pretty accurate.

3 YEAH, HE SAW IT COMING

Possibly Quicksilver's most famous line in his short run (get it?) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was delivered after he caught every arrow Hawkeye fired and then proceeded to clobber him, sending him crashing into the snow-covered ground. The same line was then spoken by the super-fast Maximoff when he sacrificed his life to save Hawkeye and the kid from being riddled with bullets. Since then, "You didn't see that coming?" has been used in many a meme (as evidenced by this list) and has become somewhat of a calling card for Quicksilver -- besides him being the Avengers' resident human shield.

If this same question would be posed towards one of the Flash's greatest enemies, the Reverse-Flash, the answer would be fairly simple. Yeah, he totally saw it coming because he's from the future and Quicksilver is already very much dead. Most of the Flash's problem with timelines (well, the few problems he doesn't himself create like Flashpoint) revolve around his war with Eobard Thawne, his evil opposite from the future. Perhaps, the Reverse-Flash could head back in time and save Pietro from his ultimate demise but it seems like a lot of work for one less-than-stellar Avenger and sub-par superhero speedster.

2 THE RACE TO END ALL RACES

The Flash Quicksilver Rogue Runner

Being the fastest man alive is clearly a very big deal and every speedster from all across Marvel and DC Comics wants the honor for him or herself. The Flash and Quicksilver have been at it for a very long time. In the comics, the two even raced on two occasions, only to find out that in their own universes they are the fastest, but when taken out of  their respective natural habitats it’s a whole other story.

The fans have taken it upon themselves to calculate the speeds at which these two heroes run in their respective television shows and movies. The X-Men Quicksilver takes the cake without contest, while the Avengers Quicksilver stands out as the slowest of the bunch. Now, it appears a new contender for the title of the fastest man alive has come forward and it’s none other than the Road Runner. The beloved mischievous bird is well known for outrunning and outsmarting Wile E. Coyote in the popular Warner Brothers cartoon. According to the available data, the Road Runner can run way over 8 Mach, which means he couldn’t beat the Flash since the Flash is faster than the speed of light. However, he and Quicksilver could have a fun time competing for the second place.

1 THERE'S NOBODY SWIFTER

Over the course of four seasons the Flash has accomplished many incredible feats. At the beginning of the show, Barry's top speed was around 2 Mach, but in order to defeat villains as fast as the Reverse-Flash, Zoom and Savitar, he had to get much faster. It has been estimated that the Flash can now reach speeds of around 50 Mach, which is a significant improvement, even if it still doesn't come close to his speed in the comics. Along with his speed, Barry has developed other powers as well. We've seen him vibrate his body through various objects, generate vortexes, create time remnants, time travel and catch bullets. His nemesis Zoom was also caught on camera catching bullets fired by numerous police officers and all with one hand.

The X-Men's version of Quicksilver is clearly the fastest mutant in that universe, and no doubt that Dash is the quickest member of the superhero family known as The Incredibles but are any of these fictional characters really faster than the Queen of Speed herself, Taylor Swift? Just like the Flash means he moves so fast that he is a literal flash, Quicksilver has the word "quick"in it, and Dash, well, dashes, Taylor's last name must mean she moves pretty fast -- or maybe that just means she's "swift" to move on after a bad relationship.
