The new premium streaming service Quibi recently launched for mobile devices in North America, with the digital platform announcing higher downloads in its first week than initial third-party reports.

A report from Quibi has announced that the app has been downloaded to 1.75 million devices in the first week of its launch. Third-party reports by Apptopia listed the program's download numbers through April 12 as being at 1.15 million. Apptopia additionally reported that downloads were relatively even between Apple and Android devices, with the vast majority of downloads from users in the United States.

While Quibi CEO Meg Whitman is reportedly "delighted" by the launch and its first week numbers, Apptopia has speculated that the lower download numbers in comparison to services like Disney+ may be due to the service being unable to connect with televisions, along with boasting a library of largely original content unlike Netflix or HBO Now.

Founded by former Walt Disney Studios Chairman Jeffrey Katzenberg, Quibi is designed for video content to be streamed vertically from mobile devices, with episodic installments running for ten minutes or less to better suit audiences on the go.

Quibi is available to download on most mobile devices. The premium streaming service is offering a 90-day free trial for those that sign up by April 30.
