Cassie Lang is currently set to take a more proactive role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The daughter of Ant-Man is all grown up (thanks to the time-skip in Avengers: Endgame), and will suit up as Stinger to fight alongside her father in the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. She's become Stinger in the core Marvel Universe as well, after a stint as the size-changing hero Stature and veteran of the Young Avengers.

But there's another major Marvel timeline where she became known as Stinger. In the MC2 Universe, Cassie Lang became a foundational member of her world's next generation of the Avengers, hinting at the kind of important roles Cassie Lang is capable of inheriting. On top of that, she developed a close friendship with another unlikely legacy hero, J2 -- the son of the Juggernaut.

How Cassie Lang Became A Major MC2 Avenger

Earth-982, otherwise known as the MC2 Universe, was a version of the Marvel Universe set roughly two decades or so in the future from the present day. Many heroes had either fallen in battle or retired from active duty, leading a new generation (like Spider-Girl, Wild Thing, Darkdevil, and American Dream) to take up the fight in their stead. One of the major figures in this generation was this reality's Cassie Lang, who had become a hero going by the moniker of Stinger on top of her work as a scientist. She was among the founding roster for A-Next, this timeline's new iteration of the Avengers.

The other founders included the next generation of Iron Man and Thor's legacies (Mainframe and Thunderstrike respectively) and the son of one of her world's major X-Men. In the MC2 Universe, Juggernaut had eventually become a full-fledged member of the X-Men and was lost on a mission after having a son. Capable of temporarily transforming himself into a Juggernaut-like body (essentially making him a Marvel version of Shazam), J2 rounded out A-Next's original roster.

Cassie Lang's Friendship With J2 Could Tease Her MCU Importance

Throughout his time on the team, J2 remained particularly close with Stinger. The pair quickly established a rapport, often working together in battles and encouraging each other in the field. He even developed something of a crush on Cassie, with both of them remaining on the squad for all sorts of crises. The MC2 Stinger serving as a major member of her world's Avengers highlights the kind of skills an experienced Cassie Lang can bring to any Marvel Universe.

With Phase 4 of the MCU setting the stage for many members of the Young Avengers to take the spotlight going forward, Cassie stepping up and becoming Stinger is a good indicator of her potential in the MCU's future. She could be a good bridging character between generations, helping lead the current crop of young heroes into a more experienced position. Her friendship with J2 highlights how she can befriend some surprising additions to any given universe and could make a good case for her scientific skills being a strong element of her character going forward. Stinger's future in MC2 could tease her eventual role in the MCU, highlighting her potential and setting the stage for Ant-Man's daughter to become one of her universe's biggest heroes.
