The Purge is officially set to commence on the small screen this September.

USA Network has unveiled the first trailer for its forthcoming The Purge television series, a ten-episode event based on the hit franchise of the same name. Like its film counterpart, The Purge revolves around a 12-hour period when all crime -- including murder -- is legal. The series will follow several seemingly unrelated characters in a small city as they are forced to reckon with their pasts and see how far they are willing to go to endure their own survival amid the annual Purge.

The Purge was written and produced by film franchise creator James DeMonaco, along with Jason Blum of Blumhouse. The series will also see the rest of the producers from the film franchise board the project, including Michael Bay and Brad Fuller. Thomas Kelly will serve as the showrunner for the USA series, while Emmy and Golden Globe award-winner Anthony Hemingway will direct and executive produce the premiere episode.

The show stars Gabriel Chavarria (War for the Planet of the Apes), Jessica Garza (Six), Hannah Emily Anderson (Jigsaw), Lili Simmons (Banshee), Amanda Warren (The Leftovers), Colin Woodell (The Originals), Lee Tergesen (Oz), William Baldwin (MacGyver), Fiona Dourif (Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency) and Reed Diamond (Dollhouse, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.).
