After Netflix announced it had renewed The Punisher for a second season, star Jon Bernthal took to Twitter to celebrate the news with a Defenders meme. Each of Netflix's Defenders -- Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist -- managed to unlock new abilities following tragic events, from mysterious science experiments to unfortunate accidents. Daredevil has enhanced senses and is a skilled fighter; Jessica Jones has her superhuman strength; Luke Cage has his impenetrable skin; and Danny Rand, of course, has the power of the Iron Fist. The Punisher doesn't have any powers, but -- as the meme Bernthal recently posted to Twitter shows -- what he lacks in superhero abilities, he makes up for in Marine training.RELATED: Marvel’s The Punisher Renewed For Season 2

The Marine Corps, of course, plays a huge part in Frank Castle's story, setting up his character to become the Punisher. Bernthal's fans will note that the actor has always been very vocal in his support for men and women in uniform and, in fact, even recently gifted signed Punisher posters to one lucky crew to show his support.

For veterans, the series and the comics have proven to be relatable in their portrayal of the PTSD of war. It's currently unknown when the series will return for its second season; however, it's clear the show will continue to tackle Castle's life post-war and the struggle of understanding his purpose following the events of season one.

Available now on Netflix, The Punisher stars Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, Ben Barnes as Billy Russo, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Micro, Amber Rose Revah as Dinah Madani, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Daniel Webber as Lewis Wilson, Shohreh Aghdashloo as Farah Madani and Paul Schulze as Rawlins, with Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio as Marion James.
