The following contains spoilers for Punisher #10, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

However the Punisher's wife, Maria Castle, was resurrected by The Hand, it has left a lasting negative impact on her.

To convince the Punisher, AKA Frank Castle, to become The Hand's Highslayer and the "Fist of the Beast," the evil ninja organization brought Maria back to life. The murder of Maria and the children she had with Frank caused him to become a violent vigilante, and although he now has his wife back, their children are unable to return from beyond. In Punisher #10 by writer Jason Aaron, artists Jesús Saiz and Paul Azaceta, Maria learns that she may never have children ever again during her second lease on life.

Previously seen in the series and so that The Hand can keep Frank in line, Maria requires repeated treatments to sustain her revival. Frank tried to run away with Maria in Punisher #5, but learned the hard way that she cannot stray too far from The Hand's compound. While receiving one of her special injections from The Hand's archpriestess in Punisher #10, Maria asks, "Will I ever get pregnant again?" The archpriestess responds, "Even the power of God has limits," referring to the demon The Hand worships, the Beast, as "God."

Why the Hand Can't Bring Back the Punisher's Children

Maria makes another unsettling discovery by the end of the issue. Wanting to know why her children couldn't be brought back as well, she goes looking for their graves. Instead of finding one for each child, however, she learns that both of her two children have multiple headstones. The repeated graves are likely a result of The Hand's many attempts to resurrect the Punisher's kids, which only garnered heinous results and several bodies to bury.

After witnessing his children as body horror nightmares in Punisher #6, the archpriestess discussed the resurrection process with Frank, saying, "It's always difficult with children. Especially ones who've been dead longer than they were alive." She adds, "Even the magic elixirs blessed by the Beast have their limits," before Frank decides The Hand will not try to bring back his children again. He then personally puts the latest attempts out of their misery.

Daredevil, Captain America and Other Marvel Heroes Are After the Punisher

The Punisher's time with The Hand is also explored in Marvel's Daredevil series by writer Chip Zdarsky and artist Marco Checchetto. While Frank may be facing the Man Without Fear and The Fist -- a rival organization intent on stopping The Hand -- in Daredevil, Punisher #10 leaves off with the heroes Captain America, Black Widow, Moon Knight, Wolverine and Doctor Strange confronting Punisher following his worldwide murder spree of criminals. Because he is the Fist of the Beast though, apprehending Frank will be more difficult this time around, since he now possesses abilities like super strength, enhanced healing, heightened senses, flight and fire powers.

Along with Aaron, Saiz and Azaceta, Punisher #10 is colored by Matt Hollingsworth and lettered by VC's Cory Petit. Main cover art for the issue is by Saiz, while variant cover artwork is by Kyle Hotz and Alejandro Sánchez. The issue is now on sale from Marvel Comics.
