UPDATE: The tweet from Netflix's official Middle Eastern and North African Twitter account, indicating the announcement of The Punisher Season 2's release date was perhaps premature.

While the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe on Netflix is unclear going into 2019, the premiere date for the second season of The Punisher has been confirmed.

Netflix's official Middle Eastern and North African Twitter account posted several release dates for the premium streaming service in January, including a January 18 premiere for season 2 of the MCU original series.

A January release date for the series was announced three weeks ago, though specifics were unknown at that time. The upcoming season will see Frank Castle take on his friend-turned-enemy Billy Russo as well as a new mysterious villain in John Pilgrim.

Given the cancellations of fellow Netflix MCU original series Iron Fist, Luke Cage and Daredevil, coupled with relatively minimal marketing for Season 2 of The Punisher, the Jon Bernthal-starring series' future is unknown.

Arriving on Netflix in January, The Punisher Season 2 stars Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, Ben Barnes as Billy Russo, Amber Rose Revah as Dinah Madani, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Jason R. Moore as Curtis Hoyle, Josh Stewart as John Pilgrim, Floriana Lima as Krista Dumont and Giorgia Whigham as Amy Bendix.
