As Netflix has been cancelling most of their original Marvel Cinematic Universe programming, the second, and potentially final, season of The Punisher is slated to premiere next month.
The premium streaming service has announced all the films and television series to arrive in January including the Daredevil spinoff at a currently unspecified date. The noticeable lack of marketing and promotion for the Jon Bernthal-led series does not bode well for its longevity, especially given Marvel Television's recent history with Netflix.
January will be a major streaming release month for film fans with all four Indiana Jones films, Solo: A Star Wars Story, Incredibles 2, and Ant-Man and The Wasp all expected to arrive on the service next month.
The future of the MCU on Netflix faces increasing uncertainty as Disney readies their own premium streaming service, Disney+, to launch next year with its own original MCU programming produced directly by Marvel Studios. October saw the cancellation of both Iron Fist and Luke Cage while Daredevil was cancelled in a surprise move last month. That leaves the upcoming second season of The Punisher and third season of Jessica Jones as likely the final MCU original seasons offered on Netflix.
Available now on Netflix, The Punisher Season 1 stars Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, Ben Barnes as Billy Russo, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Micro, Amber Rose Revah as Dinah Madani, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Daniel Webber as Lewis Wilson, Shohreh Aghdashloo as Farah Madani, and Paul Schulze as Rawlins, with Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio as Marion James.
