The original art featuring the Punisher's first-ever appearance on a cover is expected to fetch $2 million at auction.

The artwork depicts former U.S. Marine Frank Castle's alter-ego on the cover of The Amazing Spider-Man Issue #129. TMZ reports the cover art, which for decades was only rumored to exist after artist Gil Kane sold it to a private collector, is hitting the auction block from Nov. 23 until Dec. 14. ComicConnect is making the piece available for auction and valuing it at $2 million.

The cover art depicts the Punisher aiming down the sights of a rifle, and Spider-Man in crosshairs. It also features the tagline "He's Different! He's Deadly! He's -- The Punisher! The Most Lethal Hired Assassin Ever! His Assignment: Kill Spider-Man! And Behind the Most Murderous Plot of All Times, There Lurks... The Jackal!"

The issue marks the first appearance of the Punisher, a former Marine turned vigilante and assassin, as well as the supervillain the Jackal.

Comics fetching large amounts of money is not unheard of. The original cover art of The Incredible Hulk Issue #181, which featured the first major appearance of Wolverine, was also valued at $2 million when rumors of its existence were floated. The original cover art for Amazing Spider-Man Issue #328 sold for $690,000, and an Action Comics Issue #1 went for a record $3,207,852.
