With "Marvel's The Defenders" having completed filming, it's probably safe to assume "The Punisher" will wrap production on its first season before too long. However, before it does, the Netflix drama has at least one more casting surprise.

Photos recently leaked from the New York City set reveal that Oscar nominee Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio plays an unknown role on the series. The photos, which can be seen at Getty Images, show the actress with Paul Schulze, previously announced as Rawlins, “a high-ranking member of the CIA whose operations in Afghanistan intersect with Frank Castle.”

While it's difficult to say what this might mean for Mastrantonio's role, the actress does make for an impressive addition to the cast.

Along with revealing a new addition to the cast, though, these set photos also indicate the 10th episode is directed by Kevin Hooks, whose credits include "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," "Prison Break,=" and "Alias." She recently appeared in prominent roles on the television series "Limitless" and "Hostages."

Mastrantonio is known for her roles in such films as "The Color of Money," "The Abyss," "Scarface" and "The Perfect Storm."

Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle returns in his own Netflix series, which spins out of the events of “Daredevil's” second season. Debuting later this year on Netflix, “Marvel’s The Punisher” also stars Daniel Webber (“11.22.63”), Jason R. Moore (“A Lonely Place for Dying”), Paul Schulze (“Nurse Jackie”), Jaime Ray Newman (“Bates Motel”), Ben Barnes (“The Chronicles of Narnia”), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (“Girls”) Amber Rose Revah (“Indian Summers,” “Son of God”) and Michael Nathanson (“The Knick,” “Wolf of Wall Street”). Additionally, “Daredevil’s” Deborah Ann Woll will make an appearance.
