Since his introduction in The Amazing Spider-Man's #129 by Gerry Conway, Ross Andru, Frank Giacoia, and Dave Hunt, the Punisher, Frank Castle, has been a mainstay in the Marvel Universe. Over the years, the Punisher has appeared in many titles as well as many alternate timelines. One of the more interesting Punisher stories is his appearance in the Wolverine title, Old Man Logan. In it, The Punisher is older and losing some of his faculties and is ultimately looking for a little peace of mind.

After debuting during Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch's Fantastic Four #558, Old ManLogan went on to star in an acclaimed story by Millar and Steve McNiven in the main Wolverine series and later starred in his own solo series. In 2018, Ed Brisson, Simone Di Meo and Dono Sánchez-Almara's Old Man Logan Annual #1 saw the aging X-Man meet another Marvel hero in his final days, Frank Castle.

In this reality, the supervillains defeated the heroes and divided up the conquered Earth into various territories each run by a separate villain. Red Skull has become the President of the U.S and other than a few scattered heroes in hiding, the majority of superheroes have been wiped out. In a flashback in Old Man Logan #8, The Punisher is seen fighting the villains in the early days as they rose to power. Castle manages to shoot Electro before getting stabbed in the chest by Kraven the Hunter. It appears The Punisher seemingly died from his wounds, but Castle returns to continue his war on crime in Old Man Logan Annual #1.

In Old Man Logan Annual #1, The Punisher discovers that a gang called "the Punishers" has been giving his name a bad reputation by killing innocent men and kidnapping children. This group stripped Castle's iconic skull and black outfit of its heroism and rebranded it to intimidate both criminals and innocents alike. Castle's memory has also faded over the years and after the Punishers steal his War Journal, Frank agrees to help Old Man Logan attack their hideout and save the children. Frank battles the head of the group, Panhead, one on one and is fatally injured. The Punisher manages to reclaim his war journal and dies peacefully while looking at pictures of his late family.

Considering The Punisher's life was dedicated to violence and rage and revenge, this is a beautiful ending for Frank Castle who gets to have his last few living moments remembering his loved ones. The Punisher finally found peace.

The Punisher's appearance in Old Man Logan is a short one, but it gave him a fitting ending that chokes up the reader and provides a warm moment in an otherwise bleak alternate reality.
