If Marvel's Punisher is known for anything it’s for his extreme methods in exterminating crime. If your brand of crime hurts innocent people, if you profit from human suffering, the Punisher will have his sights set directly on you. Often considered as bad if not worse than the criminals that he hunts, the Punisher has no limits for getting the job done. In one particular case, though, the Punisher devised a plan that was extraordinarily grim, even for him.

2013’s Punisher MAX: Naked Kill (by Jonathan Maberry, Laurence Campbell, Lee Loughridge, and VC's Joe Caramagna) is a one-shot comic that puts the Punisher to the ultimate test. Frank travels deep within an impenetrable building, past countless guards, through state-of-the-art computer defense systems, and backed up by a small army’s worth of foot soldiers. The building houses innocent women who are being subjected to the most depraved crimes imaginable. Never one to care much for the odds, the Punisher brought his brand of justice to the perpetrators of these heinous crimes. But his escape from the operation may have pushed the limits of what could be brought to an MCU adaptation.

Punisher Escape Plan

Disguised as a janitor and escorted by one of the grunts working there, the Punisher was able to infiltrate the impenetrable crime operation. It didn't take long for him to dispatch most of the men involved in the operation even without his usual array of weapons. The only snag in the Punisher’s plan after eradicating every last criminal responsible for the trafficking ring there was no clear escape route. Eight stories high, an automatic lockdown commencing, and that army of grunts on its way, the Punisher realized his solution was right in front of him, scattered across the floor.

The Punisher and the surviving women proceeded to handcuff every single dead body in the penthouse together at the wrist. They then threw them out of a broken window and climbed down the massive corpse ladder. For anyone on the street looking on, the Punisher's plan must have seemed like a nightmare come to life. A skyscraper-sized effigy composed of human flesh and bone suddenly burst into the night.

The Punisher's Bloodiest Escape is Too Much For Disney

Punisher Human Ladder

The Punisher's plan was a simultaneously macabre and hilarious stroke of genius. It was a bleeding testament to the lengths Frank Castle will go to get the job done. It isn’t often that the Punisher would make such a brazen and public spectacle of his handiwork, but a human ladder is certainly a loud message to the criminal underworld. What's also horrible to consider is how such a display would have to be cleaned up. Even if the Punisher cut the human ladder down after the finale of the story, there would still be a giant chain of dead bodies all handcuffed together.

The Punisher made his on-screen appearance in the second season of Netflix’s Daredevil. Played by Jon Bernthal, the character was a grim and moody antihero, tormented by the boundless rage burning inside him. The Netflix Marvel shows helped lay the groundwork that Disney would continue with their revamped shows on Disney+. As Disney is best known for its family-friendly content, the incorporation of many different Marvel projects has forced the House of Mouse to move into the decidedly more mature territory. With Daredevil: Born Again slated for a 2024 release, Disney will have another fine line to walk as it portrays one of the grittiest and rawest stories Marvel has ever told with the added addition of the Punisher's MCU debut. That being said, it may be a safe bet not to expect Disney to show Frank Castle using a hundred-foot-long ladder composed of dead bodies.
