Ever wonder what problems and solutions for society will come in the future? Psycho-Pass is one of those anime that has you asking questions like these. This series's main focus is on how crime will be handled and how society will be governed in the distant future.

Psycho-Pass gives fans a perspective on what would happen if society realizes too heavily on one system. With that said, not everything in Psycho-Pass is terrible and bleak. There are elements would definitely make anyone excited or interested to see in the future. So here are some things that people would and wouldn’t want from this future.

10 Want: Automated Cars

This is one of those futuristic ideas that many people in the world wish was real. In Psycho-Pass, several times in the series characters have conversations in a car without any of them needing to drive it. The focus on the road is just a mere afterthought in this series. All a person has to do is put in their desired destination and the vehicle does the rest. Automated cars will always be a strong desire (and fear) for people. After all, it is probably the closest thing on this list to becoming a reality.

9 Don’t Want: Hyper-Oats

Hyper-Oats is a genetically-modified food crop. This food supply is extremely great for food production, but also has flaws that make it less desirable. The biggest flaw is that Hyper-Oats are vulnerable to diseases and insect attacks. Because of this, the crops have to be maintained and monitored constantly. Even though Hyper-Oats make food production easier, the last thing society needs is crops that can be easily damaged or infected. If something were to happen to the disease prevention system, all of society would be at risk of starvation.

8 Want: Cybernetics

Throughout the series, characters have cybernetic attachments substituting for lost body parts. Characters like Tomomi Masaoka and Nobuchika Ginoza have cybernetic arms to replace the flesh ones they lost while on the job.

Of course, losing an arm is nothing good or to be excited about, but it would be nice to have replacement that is even stronger and more durable than the original. If you are at risk of losing a limb, it would be nice to know that there is a future with a procedure that can replace what is lost.

7 Don’t Want: Psycho-Pass

Psycho-Pass is not just the name of the anime, but also an element within it. Psycho-Pass is a reading of an individual’s mind. Each person’s Psycho-Pass is calculated by the law enforcement organization known as the Sibyl System. A person’s Psycho-Pass doesn’t just determine if one will become a criminal but is also used to determine one’s hobbies, education, and future career. This is one thing the real world doesn’t need.

People should be free to choose things in their lives for themselves. Freedom of choice is a part of individuality which isn’t seen much in the present-day. So the last thing society needs now is technology or a system deciding every aspect of human life. Overall, what if you had the desire to pursue one career, but your Psycho-Pass said you should take a different path?

6 Want: Holograms

Much like on the show, portable holograms would have multiple functions and applications for how they can be used. Imagine having a plain, bare house and using holo-technology to make it look however you want. Pretty cool right? With this technology, a house’s interior can look like a luxury condo, a mansion, a log cabin, a museum or whatever the heart desires without actually needing any renovations. Not only would the look of buildings change, but an individual’s fashion could too. It would be so great to not have to buy clothing and to have a whole wardrobe in the palm of your hand.

5 Don’t Want: Humans turned Cyborgs

The problem with humans turning into cyborgs is that if this did exist, there are individuals that would take it too far, just like Toyohisa Senguji. Humans are born, they live and then they die because that is what nature intended.

However, if people start trying to become full-on cyborgs with the only part of them being human is their brain, they will virtually live forever. If people started to do that, there is no question that many would get bored with ordinary life and start doing twisted things to seek entertainment and thrills.

4 Want: Enforcers

In Psycho-Pass, Enforcers are individuals with high Crime Coefficients that are deemed worthy by the Sibyl System to return society to hunt down other latent criminals. Today, prisons are filling up. It would be nice if there was a system to make criminals useful within society instead of just letting people rot in jail cells. Of course, only those capable of being assistants to detectives and police officers would be let back into society. And much like on the show, they would be under constant supervision and would be punished immediately if they went against their handler’s wishes. This wouldn’t be that bad of a future. After all, sometimes it takes a criminal to catch a criminal.

3 Don’t Want: Sibyl System

Sibyl System did help to create order and lower crime rate in society, but there are several reasons why this shouldn’t be a thing in the future. One of the biggest ones is that Sibyl System makes mistakes that society ends up paying for. What would happen if there were more criminals with Crime Coefficients that Sibyl System can’t read correctly? What would happen if people came up with new and better ways to stay undetected by the Sibyl System?

In the anime, the Sibyl System only controlled an isolated society. That means there can be many more people that can be unread by the Sibyl System if it was global. As stated before, the system’s methods also stop people from living the life they want. A future with Sibyl means a loss of freedom, individuality, and humanity.

2 Want: Dominators

Dominators are weapons used to scan for a person’s Crime Coefficient and respond according to that reading. It isn’t that people should have their fate determined by a calculation that only might come true, but it would be nice if in the future society had weapons that remain locked when situations aren’t dangerous. Today, there are too many incidents where people are gunned down for no reason or by the carelessness of the shooter. If the world had weapons that were more technologically disciplined, like Dominators, maybe fewer innocents would be killed by both criminals and authority figures.

1 Don’t Want: Brainwashed Society

Most people follow things without question or fuss. However, today’s society is not as bad as the society in Psycho-Pass and hopefully will never reach that point. The series shows how brainwashed society is and how people just accept things blindly. In “Sweet Poison,” season 1, episode 14, a criminal hides his Crime Coefficient using a hi-tech helmet. As a result, he is able to beat a woman to death in the middle of the street surrounded by a crowd of people without anyone interrupting the murder.

If the man wasn’t wearing this helmet, security drones would have surrounded the criminal and people would have fled the scene in a panic. However, the drones couldn’t scan him properly and as for the people, there could be several reasons why no one reacted or helped. Maybe they were scared of their own Crime Coefficient going up if they got involved. Maybe people didn’t see anything wrong since the drones didn’t. Or maybe everyone just expected Sibyl to handle the situation. One thing is certain, a future where people would just let this happen is one that no one wants to exist in.
