The stars of the hit-comedy series Psych, and its growing film franchise, return in a new trailer for Psych 3: This Is Gus, centered on Burton 'Gus' Guster.

With faux-psychic Shawn Spencer and his ever-reluctant partner and best friend Gus at it again, the clip announces "Psych is back." The trailer teases the pair's next mishap-filled adventure in which the duo try to uncover the potentially dangerous secrets Gus' fiancée has seemingly been keeping from him. The rest of the series' fan-favorite characters (including recurring guest star Curt Smith, the bass player, singer and co-founder of '80s pop rock band Tears for Fears) are all well represented throughout the teaser, including Timothy Omundson's Carlton Lassiter making the perfect return following his real-life stroke which left him partially paralyzed. Finally, the trailer reveals Psych 3: This Is Gus will be available to stream Nov. 18 on Peacock.

The trailer was released as part of the Psych 3: This Is Gus New York Comic Con panel, attended by cast members James Roday Rodriguez, Dulé Hill, Timothy Omundson, Maggie Lawson, Kirsten Nelson, Jazmyn Simon and Corbin Bernsen, as well as creator Steve Franks and co-executive producer Chris Henze. The official synopsis describes the movie as "the latest installment in the adventures of one of television’s most beloved duos. In preparation for a shotgun wedding before the birth of Baby Guster, Shawn and Groomzilla Gus go rogue in an attempt to track down Selene’s estranged husband, as Lassiter grapples with the future of his career."

Psych 3: This Is Gus is the third in a series of movies that continue the show's story. Psych ran from 2006 to 2014 for eight seasons. Frank, however, was not done with the show and neither was the rest of the cast. Psych: The Movie was released in 2017, following Shawn and Gus building their new practice in San Francisco while attempting to locate Shawn's grandmother's engagement ring, which he gave to Lawson's Juliet O'Hara during his long-awaited marriage proposal only to see it stolen in the series finale. The film received positive reviews from critics and audiences, which led to the sequel, Psych 2: Lassie Come Home, a sequel which saw Omundson's Lassiter in a psychiatric hospital following a traumatizing arrest gone wrong.

Frank has been open about his eagerness to continue to the story. Speaking at Comic-Con in 2017, the series creator said that he was looking to produce at least five Psych TV films. In 2020, Frank suggested that he even wants to keep the Psych franchise going beyond those movies.
