It was previously reported that a host of details concerning Insomniac's upcoming Spider-Man video game sequel had leaked. The details were posted on Reddit by a user who claimed to have indirectly acquired them from Insomniac Games through a private Zoom conference.

That same user, throwawayquarantine8, has since admitted that the leak was fake. The user removed the post and deleted their account, but not before thanking everyone for "an entertaining 24 hours." The user explained that the leak, posted on April 17, had been completely invented in "a quarantine-induced boredom." They then went on to write, "I'm just a Spidey-Fan and aspiring writer who wanted to see if I could make up... an overall concept that people enjoyed," adding, "And most of you did, which I really appreciate."

Among the many fabricated details were new suit designs, a weather system and the involvement of Eddie Brock and the symbiote, among other villains, such as Mysterio and the Green Goblin. The falsified leak also contained mention of Miles Morales returning as a playable character and the appearance of J. Jonah Jameson.

The PS4-exclusive Marvel's Spider-Man has won a number of accolades with numerous nominations. It has been consistently praised for its gameplay, its story and the performance of its cast. Since its release in 2018, the game has sold more than 13 million copies worldwide.

While the undeniable success of the video game -- coupled with its cliffhanger ending -- make a sequel likely, it should be noted that there has been no official announcements or confirmations regarding the development of such a game.
