It should be noted that the release of both consoles have been heavily impacted by the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic as well as record-breaking high demand. Microsoft has struggled to meet that demand, though CFO Tim Stuart has provided assurances that this will change after Q1 of 2021.

Similarly, Sony has stock does not currently match demand, however more consoles will be available before the end of the year. Sony announced on social media, "We want to thank gamers everywhere for making the PS5 launch our biggest console launch ever. Demand for PS5 is unprecedented, so we wanted to confirm that more PS5 inventory will be coming to retailers before the end of the year - please stay in touch with your local retailers."

The PlayStation 5 is now available worldwide. Its Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive retails for $499 USD, while the Digital Edition without a disc drive retails for $399.
