The PlayStation 5 will be capable of much more than running innovative new video games. Like the next-gen console's predecessors, the PS5 will have a number of apps available to it. Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that these apps will be available at launch without the need to access the PlayStation Store.

Sony stated, "Entertainment like movies, TV shows, music, and gaming livestreams only add to the PlayStation experience. As we continue on our road to PS5 launch, we're pleased to announce some of the entertainment [apps] scheduled to hit the PS5 console on day one, with more apps to come in the future." The list of available apps contains a number of major streaming services such as Disney+, Netflix, Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu and more. Additionally, PS5 users will have access to Spotify, YouTube and Twitch.

It further explained that there will be a dedicated space on the PlayStation 5 for media entertainment, with the interface designed in such a way as to make switching from video games to other media simple.

Sony also announced an accompanying Media control. It stated, "At the launch of the PS5 console, there will be a new Media Remote to conveniently navigate and control the entertainment experience on PS5. Users can power on the PS5 console and quickly navigate media with built-in play/pause, fast forward and fast reverse controls."

PlayStation 5 goes on sale on Nov. 12. The Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive version will retail for $499 USD, while the Digital Edition without a disc drive will retail for $399.
