With the release of the new console generation just around the corner, gamers around the world are debating which system they should spend their hard earned cash on. But in an age where game consoles resemble desktop PCs more than the technologically unique systems of old, a console's worth is mostly determines by its lineup of exclusive games. In light of Sony's PlayStation 5 event last month, let's discuss five of the most intriguing console exclusive titles announced at during the show.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure

Nearly six years after the release of Little Big Planet 3Sony's iconic cloth mascot is finally returning with a new spin-off game, Sackboy: A Big Adventure. Unlike previous entries in the series, Sackboy puts a larger emphasis on 3D platforming rather than the two-dimensional interactivity of previous titles. The game will also offer up to four player co-op.

Though it is not being developed by franchise founders Media Molecule, the development team behind Little Big Planet 3, Sumo Digital has proven itself to be a worthy successor and will undoubtedly provide the addictive platforming the franchise is known for. There is no information on whether there will be creation tools included in the game, and no official release date is currently available.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales

In light of the immense success which Spider-Man enjoyed on PlayStation 4, it was rather expected that a sequel would be right around the corner. However, Spider-Man: Miles Morales is not exactly the traditional sequel fans may expect. According to developer Insomniac Games, Miles Morales follows in the footsteps of Naughty Dog's Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, a game which also began life as an expansion turned full on standalone release.

Much like The Lost LegacyMiles Morales will be a shorter title, likely about half the length of the first game. Though that shouldn't be too much of an issue, as players will still have plenty to see and do, especially since Miles has his own unique Spidey powers, like his bioelectric shock attacks and ability to turn invisible. As far as release dates are concerned, Spider-Man: Miles Morales is set to launch holiday 2020, coinciding with the release of the PS5.

Horizon Forbidden West

There have been countless games which explore the post-apocalypse, but 2017's Horizon Zero Dawn and its wholly unique take on the genre have captured imaginations like few other games. Sony's PS5 came with the exciting announcement that there is a sequel in the works: Horizon Forbidden West.

The game will follow Zero Dawn's protagonist, Aloy, as she treks Westward across an apocalyptic United States to destroy The Red Blight. Her journey will take her from the mountains of Utah all the way to a flooded San Francisco coast. To defeat her foe, Aloy will have to traverse both land and sea, making use of her new breathing mask and "sunwings" along the way. Horizon Forbidden West is currently set to release in 2021.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

Yet another beloved PlayStation franchise is receiving a sequel, and it's being built with the PS5 specifically in mind. Developer Insomniac Games is taking the series to a whole new level with Ratchet & Clank: A Rift Apart, and according to an interview with developer Marcus Smith, this is thanks to the PS5's incredible load times.

In this expansive sequel, players will follow Ratchet and Clank as they travel through space and time, seamlessly hopping from one world to the next with the help of Sony's next gen hardware. Rift Apart will also take advantage of of some of the PS5's more subtle new features, such as the variable pressure sensitivity on the new Dual Sense controllers and console's 3D spatial audio systems, all of which should prove rather intriguing. No release date has been announced.

Demon's Souls Remake

It may not be a new Souls game, but developer Bluepoint's remake of the classic From Software title Demon's Souls looks absolutely incredible and is sure to please. This ground up remake aims to take full advantage of the PS5's new hardware and features everything from ray-traced lighting to fully reworked environments. Not only that, but the remake will run at a buttery smooth 4K 60 FPS. No further information on this release has been made available, but whether it's coming next year or sometime down the line, it's an exciting sign of what's to come for the PlayStation 5.
