Following its Japanese release, the acclaimed cross-genre adventure video game 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is now available worldwide on PlayStation 4.

The launch trailer showcases the game's blend of side-scrolling action and realtime strategy as 13 Japanese high school students in the 1980s become figures in the ongoing war between giant robotic mechs and monstrous kaiju. As the students explore the world around them to discover new secrets and recruit allies for the epic fight, they are routinely called to defend kaiju attacks on various points of the city.

Players follow the interweaving stories of 13 protagonists, with the ability to jump between different scenes and rewind and fast-forward through sequences to discover different variations. The realtime strategy sections has up to six Sentinels defending strategic points against waves of kaiju in tower defense-inspired gameplay.

In active development by Vanillaware since 2015 after the completion of remastered editions for Odin Sphere and Muramasa: The Demon Blade, 13 Sentinels combined traditionally 2D illustrated elements with 3D rendered environments. The developer consciously sought to change things up from its usual fantasy fare, with a more modern, industrial setting and premise. The game was originally released in Japan in November 2019, with other East Asian territories receiving a release in March.

Uncover the truth and delve into a 2D sidescrolling adventure featuring gorgeous art and environments. Then, battle the kaiju in fast-paced, top-down combat. Customize the Sentinels with an arsenal of mechsuit weaponry, and fight to defend humanity!

Developed by Vanillaware and published by Atlus, 13 Sentinels: Aegis Ruin is now available for PlayStation 4.
